May there be one flaw to connecting as a secondary,,, you being dropped by the primary you go through? Or does this branch out once the connection is made?

Running as a secondary you're connected via 'a' primary, if that primary is unstalbe (unprotected)  then yes you will get dropped like a hot potatoe, for WinMX Group patch users of 3.x the connection is with other proteced patched primaries 99% of the time.  Your always going to have disconnections but this does help stablize things better.

Hope this clears that up for you sst75tss, if not maybe I misunderstood your ?

Being dropped does not actually affect pretty much anything. I've never lost rooms nor uploads or downloads because of that.
It isn't all that 'bad' and to me certainly does not seem like a disadvantage

'Sam says'   uploads and downloads which are direct links to the souce or end souce PC will remain, queues can somtimes be effected by disconnection yes.

You need to forward ports for your router (if you have one)
Go to www.portforward.com and see your router model there and you will find a tutorial on how to forward ports there.
Defaults are:
TCP 6699
and
UDP 6257

Then go to settings> TCP incoming> and select listen to option
Go to settings> UDP In/Out > and select the listen to option.
And you should be done :)

I am having problems connecting. I just got a new computer running vista. It appears that the program has downloaded but never connects? I may have made a mistake setting my connection type but that box does not come up anymore and I don;t know how to re set it? Can you help me. I am running 1.5 DSL through a NETGEAR router. I never had any problems with my old computer running XP.

Hi Oakfarm,

Have a look at this post about a test patch for Vista users.

I cannot connect at all.  I was connecting but was unable to download so like an idiot (I think) I ran setup again.  Although I am no worse off then before.  I have had this problem in the past but cannot remember how to fix it.  Please help.  I am on DSL with basic Windows service pack 2 firewall.  XP.

First make sure in WinMX Settings > Outgoing TCP that it is ticked 'Do Not Use A Proxy Server, Connect Directly'

Next remove WinMX from the XP firewall rules then restart it and add it again.

This is a clear indication of ISP inteference...
Your ISP blocks the connection in peak hours.......
Best you see how secondary performs in that period...

Try this one mate

1. download patch,
2. open patch,
3. open c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
4. close winmx ,
5. open the patch window and drag to the drivers\etc folder,
6. restart winmx
