Downloaded new patched files but still no connection

Hello,

I was able to connect with the new files after the initial demise of Winmxgroup, but a few days later I lost my ability to connect. I have downloaded the new patched files and installed them over my old files (not a clean install), but still no luck.

I have Windows ME (Just a couple more months, I promise) and use a secondary connection.

Thanks for any help on what the next step might be.

Hi Junebug,

We have seen several folks that have had firewalls block the access after changes made so I would start there.  Remove WinMX from any allowed rules you have in any firewalls and then restart it and when it asks for permission again allow it.

If this doesnt work it may be worth a fresh install on the machine to enure that the files are new ones, and not just getting duplicates in the folder.

if you havn't already, i suggest a reboot too.. always a good idea on 9x or ME to lock new settings in.. the patch does work on ME i've tested on all common (and some less common) windows versions from 95 onwards)

Thanks for the help so far, but no luck. I removed the program, disabled my firewall, reinstalled, rebooted, and gave it two hours to connect. Still nothing doing.

I didn't recall having to assign a SOCKS proxy before, but it seemed I had to do this? I set it to use a SOCKS4 proxy.

that'll be the issue.. when connection testing fails totally it suggests you may need a proxy.. when in fact unless you're on some corporate network it's highly unlikely..
i suggest going to winmx settings & changing that to "connect directly" ...
restart winmx & see what happens

Argh! I changed it to direct connection, rebooted, restarted, gave it a couple hours, and still no connection.

Is there a system file I need to install in a certain folder or something, or should just running the setup file do everything I need?

The installer only adds an entry to your 'hosts' file which is a system file, that entry is only responsible for the update bar.

When you run WinMX do you get a splash screen that says Patch Created By WinMX Group..with the world on it?

So I installed the complete program again with the newest patch but it makes no difference T_T And it can't be the router because it was working before ...

No -- I just checked and there's no splash screen.

Could someone point me to a tutorial on a basic setup procedure with the current files/patches? I'd be happy to just start over from scratch.

Hi Junebug..

First go to C:\Program Files and delete the WinMX folder.  Do this with WinMX off of couse.

Then download this file:
Install for Multi-versions Patched

Once you have it downloaded just double click to install.. and thats it really.. let us know how you get along..

Deleted everything WinMX on my machine, then downloaded and installed again. Removed rules from ZoneAlarm, then re-allowed. Still no connection. I guess I'm pretty much out of things to try. Just to review my specs:

Win ME OS
WinMX version 3.53 is what I've been using
Comcast cable internet

WinMX Settings:
Secondary connection
Connect directly (don't use proxy server)
Unable to accept incoming TCP connections (Since I'm behind a router)
Unable to send or receive UDP datagrams on any port
Use OS to resolve host names
DNS queries time out after 30 seconds


Please let me know if I can provide any other relevant info. Otherwise, I guess I'll hope to connect again in a few months when I get a new machine with XP.

Never mind -- just got my first green light in weeks! Following another thread led me to the "noMX" exe, which I installed and then re-ran the new patched installer. Instant green light (oddly without even rebooting).
