Network Degredation?
« on: August 16, 2007, 04:27:18 pm »
I've noticed since KM stopped running DNS for the caches, my download queue seems to be getting progressively shorter than it was previously & search results are way down

i see two possible causes:

1) major loss of userbase

2) heavy reliance on usercaches

KM often pointed out that too many user caches (non indexing caches) were bad for the network long term.. i'm wondering if we're now suffering from the effects of using too many of them?

I,m sure we suffered a loss of userbase Bearded, many folks hopped over to the only other solution available, and who can blame them.

Another problem that KM introduced is the blocking of host file secondaries from those primaries using dll patches, this will be a cause of yet more disruption and finally it was noticed some time ago that the user caches are not 100% suitable for their purpose but I for one am not going to ask anyone to employ programs that may have back doors or uknown functions, this is why I further suggest some new caches be constructed to ensure all can connect and not just a select group.

The cure for the problem you mention is to reboot the peer cache every 24 hours, I have asked one or two of the cache runners to make some sort of information or guide available to help others but no one seems to have done so thus far.

i can agree with the need for independant cache software, with km out of the game, there's no way to address problems that may occur..

& the prblem with getting a how to use usercache guide is probably because it's trivial, open/forward the ports, double click public cache.exe job done  entire giude as i was aware of it

add close/reopen daily becomes complete guide

it has been brought up a couple of times with you refusing to answer so i'll ask again here...

do you even know what the problem with using user caches is? and if so why the hell do you think "well stop using it for 10 seconds then start using it again" would somehow reset the problem of how the caches work?

I'm not sure why I'm wasting my time replying to someone attacking the network and invading peoples privacy for the life of me.

If your going to waste my time please use your fingers to type something helpful to the community, merely launching into another mindless rant to tell folks nothing helpful is not likely to encourage me or anyone else to reply in the future.

If you have or are offering a solution then please do so, if your not then kindly try not to undermine the community with your self fulfilling prophecies and keep your criticisms to yourself, I can always find twenty folks to tell me somethings not perfect.

KM i for one at one point respected you slightly but now you are showing what you can really do. What i notice about this post is you asking why questions where not being answered but within that process you did not answer yourself.

PLEASE GROW UP and for the last time KM people do appreciate what you did or us and WinMx but why throw it all away. Everyone who reads these posts of you replying with nothing but down grading people and blaming people and acting all god like, they are seeing that you did at one point help but now you are not worth the time of the day.

At this rate WinMx will be no good KM why not help once again. I am not saying do everything yourself but why not help us back on our feet so that in the future there is less for you to moan about

Its not in his interest to do so. He predicted Winmx would not last without him, and now that it has, he is upset, so he is busy finding subtle ways to attack it, claim its someone elses fault.....blah blah blah. Best thing to do is rid winmx of all things Km as quickley as possible and make this whole KM debarcle a closed chapter consigned to the history books, focusing instead on promoting a community patch and network.

"Verbally and literally"
meaning? i am literally attacking nobody... and as for verbal attacks, if you think calling someone stupid "stupid" and calling someone with no clue "clueless" "attacking" them then... well, you'd fall in to one of those categories ;-)

OMG! That was funny!

Did you see what he did there? How he took someone being honest and sincere and just smacked them around with bitter sarcasm in an attempt to try to sound like a condescending ass?

Wow that was talent! Who would have thought?! Simply amazing!

Oh...wait. No I guess that WASN'T cool, was it? In fact kinda low and pathetic.

Geez, you almost had me impressed there KM! Nice try.

In all seriousness, why are you being such an ass? Why can't you ever treat others with respect when they are asking you a honest question and being sincere? Is it just in your nature to be a crappy individual? If so, just leave the community like you said you wanted, and let everyone forget how sour you have become.

Otherwise, have a little self respect and some dignity and quit being so shitty to people.

Best regards, and Be Good,
Scyre
