Hi Jonzo

Are you running a firewall?

If so, please try unallowing winmx and than allow it again.

Could you please let us know how you get on.

I was running the windows firewall but disabled it to see if that would work and it doesn't. All it says is "waiting for results..." Results used to stream in as they were found but nothing now seems to be found and I am doing some really simplified searches. I am running winmx 3.54 beta 4 on windows xp.

this suggests udp isn't getting through, i'd recommend looking up your modem/router at www.portforward.com & following the instructions to configure it for winmx

I'll do that but it doesn't explain why it worked a couple of weeks ago and not now. Could I have something wrong in my settings that would do this? I know I changed one setting from Cable to DSL. Could that do it?

if you follow all the instructions at portforward.com & make sure winmx is allowed in your firewall, it should all just work from that point

OK Gang,  I have no issue with Ports, WinMX works just fine as a secondary user, but when I connect as a primary - Guess what?   I get no Search returns.   So what do I do about that?

Note OpenNap network connections return heaps of search results whether I am connected as a Primary (my normal setting) or Secondary - So this is a network issue, not a port forward problem.   Any idea's?
Kind regards,   Tom.

Oops I should of mentioned latest version of WinMX, Windoze XP and WinMX users can see my file listings (Rigmar_Radio) and download no problems from me regardless of what type of connection I make.   Primary connections just stop me from searching on WinMX that is all.
Kind regards,   Tom.

what firewall are you running ? sounds like a issue try running winmx wizard ( click on settings its at the top) and at the setup starting it in primary your firewall might just need a kick start to allow searches in primary ( or perhaps 1st try searching in primary with your firewall turned off this will absolve it of causing the problem if this is not the case)

Hi Jonzo

Can you please give me some more information. Like what operating system you are running? What make and model is your router? What programs are you using adware and anti virsus etc... Also what speed you are running at dial up or adsl?

If you are able to give me that I will be able to look at it.

HI Jonzo

OK what you need to do is allow winmx through MacAfee as it does have a firewall. Here a web site that will help you be able to do this: http://download.mcafee.com/products/manuals/en-gb/MIS_DataSheet_2006.pdf

And also you will need to forward your ports. Here is a web page for this: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/Westell6100/WinMX.htm

Both of these web sites are pretty detailed.

Please post back and let us know how you go.

First of all, all I can do in McAfee is turn off the firewall..I can't choose like windows who gets through..I'm not too keen on this but I did it to see if this whole thing works.

I am doing the port thing right now and will keep you informed.

I'm sorry my friends but this is too much of a pain in the ass to go through these setups. It worked before, it doesn't now and I have no faith that if I complete these changes that I might compromise the security of my computer.

Eh??

You should be easily able to manualy allow winmx with your McAfee in a matter of seconds by following the instructions below  jonzo
it wont compromise your security as this will only take affect on the programme you select ( in this case winmx)

To unblock winmx
Open the McAfee Security Firewall program
Click Control Internet Programs
Click Add
Locate winmx from the directory
Note: Normal path for winmx is: C:\Program Files\winmx
Click Open
Click the circle next to Allow this program to have full, unfiltered access to the Internet
Click Apply
Click the red X at the top right to close the program

Remember anything worth having usualy requires at least some effort

hi Jonzo,

Also worth mentioning here hun is that by opening ports and setting them for WinMX to use specifically doesnt leave them open to any other program usually on most routers so you can safely add ports to open.. If you find all of this way to daunting Jonzo have no fear we can also set this all up as a secondary user for you .. now its not the ideal situation for any user but for 80% of transfers (up and down) this will work and your chats and searches will also..

You simply go into Settings of WinMx, set Incoming TCP to Unable then open In/Out UDP and set that to Unable.  Close Settings and then restart WinMX completely... As I mentioned this is not ideal and you will sometimes have some issues with certain users not being able to get from them or them from you.. however before you get completely frustraited and give up give this a try..

We dont want to loose you over the ports and many users run this way too..

Post back and let us know..
