« on: August 21, 2007, 05:17:51 am »
I have dl ed  the patches installed them  deleted winmx  redled  it   looked in my  firewall  and  allowed and unalowed and reallowed  it.  went to the ports forward site  and tried that. andi'm still not  connecting.  I have xp  but  dont really have  the modem or router  on my computer  just the adapter to pick up the signal from another computer. I think its something to do with that.   The adapter is belkin wireless g  adapter.  thats  what it says on the box.  so if if anybody can help me out   message me .

if you are picking up your signal through another computer this will mean the other pc will have to be configured to allow winmx also and if this pc has a modem/router that needs configuring then this will also have to be done
try running winmx 1st through the source pc and see if it will work on there once you get it to connect ok on there you should have no problems getting it to work on yours

if you're using an ad-hoc wireless network & internet connection sharing, while it *is* possible to set things up to forward ports within the firewall and possibly the modem also, it's way more hassle (and less reliable) than is justified

if that *is* your configuration i would suggest going to winmx settings & setting Incoming TCP & IN/OUT UDP both to unable & connecting as a secondary

certainly is because as you are recieving from this pc ( effectivly using it as a wireless router) you can only get from it whats allowed into it in the 1st place
keep percevering pixie you will get there in the end its just a case of elimination

Can you confirm you can get internet pages etc on the wireless/Belkin using pc ?

You also stated you have installed the patch, can you confirm its this one

https://www.winmxworld.com/patch/3.0mod3-3.54-Setup.exe

from this page

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html

and can you ensure that when you start winmx up on the wireless pc its being allowed through the other computers firewall.

I use  norton internet security 2006 .
Yeah it ishttps://www.winmxworld.com/patch/3.0mod3-3.54-Setup.exe   i got it from https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html
I can get to the internet thru the wireless computer. I dunno if it is on the other,  but i have got on that one and that one doesnt connect either. I think he only has the windows firewall. i looked for another one but  couldnt find one. Winmx is allowed on his firewall.

ok you need to forward the ports for this modem click the link below and follow the steps
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Siemens/4200/WinMX.htm

this should enable connection via his pc then this will enable you to connect via the router

check all the steps above on your brothers including checking the firewall will allow etc
then try reloading winmx make sure u use the one for existing installs from here

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html

also try connecting on primary and secondry
another thing to check for is that the xp firewall isnt on and blocking as well as whatever other firewalls you have installed

im not sure if this works but are both winmx's on the same set of ports ? if so change the set of ports....perhaps that will make a difference

thats not the issue atm because none will connect ( not to say it wont be once we can get the main pc connected though)
the only thing i can see that can be the problem pixie is that your isp must be blocking because with your setup if you have followed all the advice given it should be connecting fine ( at least on the main pc being your brothers one)

to recap you have tried
making sure you have the latest winmx fix installed on both pcs
changing TCP & IN/OUT UDP both to unable & connecting as a secondary on both pcs
forwarding ports on your brothers pc following the instructions at the link to portforward.com i posted for you
making sure his firewall allows both winmx & for you to connect to him
checking there isnt 2 firewalls running at the same time on either pc
uninstall and reinstalling winmx on both pcs

one other thing is the security that could be blocking it ( i had a simular thing with norton 2006 but starting winmx without it running then turning it back on solved this issue) but as you say on your brothers pc all he has is xp firewall installed so this wouldnt be a issue on his ( & his is the one we need to get connected 1st in order for you to be able to connect via his... as if his cant connect at all then yours wont either even if yours is set up perfectly for it)

one other thing you could try to pretty much confirm that it is isp blocking is connecting your pc direct to the net via his modem .... hence cutting out the middle man (being your brothers pc) but with his setup & if ports are forwarded as shown in the tutorial his should connect fine anyway

the only other thing i can sugest is running a virus scan on both pcs just to check all is running as it should be ( if all is clear) do a complete uninstall of winmx ... including deleting the folder in your c/drive called winmx then a clean install from the above link & try connecting with all firewalls /security turned off to establish a connection ( this will eliminate security blocking on your pcs)

one last issue i have encounterd in the past is running torrents ( for some reason winmx would dissconnect ( or wouldnt connect)when i did so if you have any other progs running when you are trying to set up perhaps turn these off also

i hope something here will help you .... i know its frustrating having to do so much but its a case of elimination to establish the problem but as i said b4 i suspect after all you have tried its isp blocking ( perhaps a call to your isp asking if they block p2p traffic will confirm this ...only if they are honest about it though which a lot are not .... if they try to tell you p2p is illegal point out to them it is not & its shareing coppyrighted files that is & you are perfectly within your rights to share your own files/material ( i had this issue also with one certain isp and after a good rant at them i was magicaly able to connect)

the reason for asking you to double check (even clean install) is because quite often its the simplest/most obvious things that we overlook & doing this we tent to check a little closer second time round & sometimes pick up on something we missed b4

if it is a case of isp blocking the only way round it if they wont unblock is to change isp a pain in the ass but the harsh reality of it

well i looked on thier site  and  it  says
Windstream does not currently block specific ports on our Broadband service, however, the Speedstream modem that you have may be blocking the specific ports that you need available by default. Setting up port forwarding within your modem may make the specific ports you need available. These steps are quite useful for gaming or peer-to-peer sites such as Limewire or Morpheus. In this example we will set port forwarding for "Software X", where the default ports are 3646-3647. ("Software X " is used as an example, not as an actual software title.)

(Windstream Communications will not provide any over-the-phone assistance, or further e-mail assistance in regards to port forwarding and with any issues that arises from the software you are needing ports open for.)

In order to set up port forwarding in your modem, please follow the steps listed below

which just tells ya how to forward the ports . so i dunno. lol hell i even tried putting in the 3646 and 3647 ports lol  they didnt work either.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Siemens/4200/WinMX.htm     <<<<< double click on this link

The above page will give you step by step instructions on exactly how to forward your ports for winmx including what numbers to put in and where to do this  if you dont follow this winmx will not work

if you have problems following the instructions on the above link  then follow the steps you used b4 in forwarding ports and use these numbers
6699  and  6257     <<<<<<  these are the default ports specific to winmx  using diffrent numbers will not work unless you change your udp and tcp settings which at this stage you have no reason to its like having the right keys to the right car without them it aint going no where
