« on: August 28, 2007, 07:27:59 am »
Ok, I'm trying to download a file from this user, and everytime I try to connect it tells me connection timed out.

I'm using a 2 wire AT&T DSL modem with 1.5 megabyte download speed.

P connection 4 S connection 12

Hi Rob,

This could be caused by a few things, first of all the things to remember are these, you'll sometimes get this from users if they dont have ports set up or set up correctly and thier uploads dont work for anyone.  And there is nothing you can do to fix thier system.

Second most important thing to note here are the amount of secondary users you have, so Im going to ask you which patch do you have installed, as the time outs could actually be fake files.  Your update bar should say Patch Online and give this site for help if you have the filtering patch installed.  If it doesnt post back and we'll get you that info to get updated.

I'd like to know if this is just one user or many users you experience this from ? and do your uploads work ok?

Well I'm having this issue with not all users on winmx but random users. My uploads are working perfect its just some of the downloads.

I don't have the filtering patch installed, because when I try to go to the link to intsall it it says this page cannot be displayed. Can you give me the direct link to the patch?

I'm in que for like "hours" and when it finally trys to connect, i get the "timed out waiting for reply. This is the most annoying as it seems i have all that i need, then wait which seems forever and then get timed out.  Appreciate expertise help.

its possible that your ports need forwarding mman
all explained here
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/port_forwarding.html
you will need your brand and model number & need to go to the link below to set up
http://www.portforward.com/

also please check that winmx is allowed in your firewall .... i dont know about net defence so here is a quote i found about it

"The NetDefense firewall utility can be accessed and modified directly from the main SystemSuite interface or the System Tray. Both inbound and outbound traffic is monitored, and NetDefense keeps a list of all local applications that have attempted to connect to a network, so you can determine whether to allow access"

hope this solves your problem if not please feel free to post back

I am one of those ppl that it's impossible to DL from. I tried to fix the settings on my firewall, but that doesn't seem to be working. Any other suggestion would be appreciated, however I need quick and simple fixes, as I am not sure I can follow the thorough direction given that I don't even understand all the lingo you guys are using.
I just hope someone can help me fix this, as I really appreciate all the great people here that share their music, and I hope that I can return the favour.

Mince, I had this problem, as well.  Such is distressing, indeed.

Instructions to remedy follow.  They are a copy & paste of excellent directives from MeHere -- they certainly worked for me.

For the heck of it, you may want to check the WinMX settings (tab, top of screen, right from center) and change defalt up/download time limitations for file transfers.

Good luck, bluepup

Ok Bluepup, lets just make sure its all set up correctly..

For WinMX settings go to Incoming TCP, set this to the top option and port number 6699.
Now click on In/Out UDP and top option port number 6257.

Close WinMX completely if you adjusted the above settings.

For your router we must have the machines IP address being assigned by the router.. so lets double check that at this time.

Go to Start > Run > Type in              cmd
Click OK
In this new black box type            ipconfig
Hit Enter.
Make a note of the IP Address as listed here.
Close that box.

Now open the router configurations via Internet Explorer or your web browser and navigate to the Advanced > Virtual Server pages.

Make sure that you have two rules set up for WinMX.  Incase your unsure about this here is how they should look

Name: WinMXtcp (or any name here you wish)
Private IP:  (the IP Address i asked you to take note of, be sure not to use the Default Gateway Adddress here, the gateway is for accessing the router only)
Protocol: TCP
Private Port: 6699
Public Port: 6699
Schedule Always
and now apply or make sure your previous one matches this ..

Second one as follows:
Name: WinMXudp
Private IP: same as above mentioned
Protocol: UDP
Private Port: 6257
Publick Port: 6257
Schedule Always
Apply.

Now close these configurations after double checking no typos exist..and Open Your FIrewall configuration in Control Panel.
Click on the Exceptions page and highlight WinMX on the list.  (if more then one exists just remove all but one and use it)
Once highlighted click 'Add Port' and add TCP port 6699
Then say OK
Hightlight WinMX on the list again in exceptsions and do the same for your UDP port of 6257.

Restart WinMX now in either primary or secondary which ever you prefer, and see if its not allowing more uploads..
Post back with questions or to let me know

I have the problem as well, Rob. Some users will auto-ignore you if you don't have enough files. If they  anti-leech programs, you get disconnected automatically and they don't even know you've tried to d/l from them.

Hi Guys

Try and send a pm so they know before they disconnect you until you have enough files... Or even get the addy of the room they are using. Some people are easier to get hold of that way.
