Click on the settings tab at the top of your winmx screen then go to the tab labeled search and just check the auto enter queue number .... i set mine to 100 personally....  if this number is set lower than the amount of people others have in there queue then it will cancel/go red automatically..... not a major worry because if you leave the download on you screen in time it usually finds someone else with the same file especially if you set the auto find sources to 10m ( meaning it will auto search every ten mins for the same file)

Great to hear you are finding what music you wanted to.

If there is anything else we can help with don't hesitate to post as there are plenty of people more than happy to help you on this site :)

Hi Lamia,

If some of the uploads are making it through ok its likely that we have one of a few situations.

This type of thing can be caused if your ISP is throttling p2p traffic, some only pick on uploads and throttle the speeds so badly that most or all time out.  Who is your ISP?

The other possible problem could be that you have your WinMX set in 'passive secondary' meaning that you've not set up ports for the WinMX in the D-Link router you have and not set them in WinMX either.  Simple fix (well fairly simple) would be to make sure you have that set up using the link HellOnEarth gave you
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DSL-502T/WinMX.htm

Try doing the ports and make sure WinMX is then set up according to that page as well, and get back to us here.

Stonepark,

Your problem is likely due to either a Dsl Modem with router built in or a cable router,  Can you give us some more information about your set up.
Do you have a dsl modem/ router ?  What is the name and model of it?
What Firewalls do you use?
What Operating system do you have?

I also have my up and downloads timing out.  or disconnecting this has just started all of a sudden.
My ISP is Optimum online,  they use to cap now I think after reading the forums, they are throttling p2p traffic.  Is there anyway to know for sure?

You could try ringing them and asking...although they will probably palm you off with some b/s reasons.
Is this happening all the time or just during peak times eg evenings and weekends?
One thing you could try is changing ports and see if this makes any difference also have you got the latest patch (as of July 07)  This can be obtained from the link below

It had started about 2 days ago and  is happening all the time.  I have tried changing my ports, and I do have the latest patch, and I still have the same results..  I will try calling them and asking,  though you called it they do give b/s explanations and the ones they connect you to know little or nothing past the script in their book.

Mytheroo: I checked the windows firewall, it's still disabled  :)

What modem/router make/model are you using ? sometimes its worth a check to see that the ports are still forwarded (sometimes these reset) also did you forward the new ports you used?

This can be done at the site using the link below

This might be worth a look & would seem that it could be your problem.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_Online

Quote
In the past, Optimum Online imposed bandwidth caps on its users, but as per a discussion on an Internet forum, these caps have been eliminated at least as of 2008.[1] Users reported that after excessive upload usage, they have been capped from 2 megabits upstream to 150 kilobits upstream, a 92.5% decrease in upstream bandwidth. There is no information available to the consumer about OOL's capping policy. Getting uncapped is an often lengthy process, requiring OOL representatives to call a customer back at their house. The criteria for getting capped seems to differ from customer to customer. Cablevision claims that the decision is based on the CPU *utilization* of their gateway servers, and they cannot give a customer any parameters with which they can avoid capping. They claim to offer only "burst upload service". Discussions by capped OOL customers have concluded that any sustained usage of upload bandwidth (between 5 to 24 hours) will eventually result in a bandwidth cap. Users would not be able to use BitTorrent, FTP, or any server application without eventually getting capped. This can be avoided by setting a max upload speed of 10-15kB/s, for BitTorrent users this effectively means you can seed, but only by a very limited amount (and stopping the torrent after finishing). You could indefinitely seed a torrent at 10kB/s and never get capped. This would essentially exclude an Optimum Online customer from utilizing video conferencing or anything else that would be sending large amounts of data over a "high speed" connection that the customer is already paying for. Cablevision states that this is in accordance to a clause in their user agreement, where they may "use whatever means necessary to ensure the security and stability of their network". The upload capping seems to affect nodes that are crowded, as some users have never experienced an upload cap despite the fact they upload at max constantly.

Thank you again.
Yes,  that article helped a lot it also confirmed my suspicions.   In my community the only other cable company available to us has gone out of business, this leaves Optimum free to do as they please with their customers without fear of competition.

I also had a problem just yesterday and uploads were timing out but a restart of my router from the web config page fixed the issue.  It doesn't like keeping it's settings sometimes I guess.

Hi I know that I am a bit stupid but where do I find the router that I am using? I do not use windows firewall I am using Norton. I really do not know much about routers etc. I am 62 and suffering a bity of senile decay ha ha ha but I love my computer and music but i feel very guilty about the up-loaders(except the ones who do not share of course), I don't have any problems downloading except the odd one where I am timed out, I do sound a bit silly not knowing the router but if you tell me where and what to look for I will then let you know. thanks a bunch

Hi lamia... these arent silly questions at all. Here's a guide that will explain how to forward your ports for your router and should help cure your uploads from timing out.Click the link below...

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DSL-502T/WinMX.htm

For further assistance and details on how to go about forwarding ports or even accessing your routers settings have a look at this link below...

If your still in need of help after reading these please post back and we'll gladly help you get this figured out  ;)

Good luck  :)

P.S. About the smileys... if you mean the smileys for this forum when making a post..... you should see them above the box you type in while creating a post  :canadian:
