The release was made by a programmer calling themselves Unique ( thats three I know of now  )

I intend to look it over and see how he has built the beast but it is good news for many that someone has taken a step to break what has been a long running deadlock between the basic connecting only groups and those who support blocking and filtering, lets hope this project matures into something more substantial with time.

 happy new year!

i make patch for winmx. it use winmxworld peer cache because you have not hostname for me to use. and it use winmxworld list to block RIAA. no fake remove YET! give me some days for it!

 unique...please pm me where i can try the patch..could be interesting for germans which can´t use V´s patch and don´t want gemini´s pie patch or wmw patch..ty

and in my opinion we should support other good patches if they don´t come from the faked pie team or km)
i have problems for example to use vladds patch, same with other germans

 In the past, Vladd has replaced wmw patch site (which KM and wmw ppl spammed shamelessly on this forum) with our own patch link and yes, wmw spammed shamelessly their patch here on this site until is it norm for forum admins to remove any patch links from them. Same with mxpie patch which we also do not encourage spamming since it is an inferior patch from a rogue copycat site.

I removed yr patch site, u_n_i_q_u_e but I left open the option that if u really want to help winmx users and r not doing it for personal glory or traffic to yr site... I pmed u to pm Nobby who is in charge of patch development for Vladd44. If u find it disdainful to even approach Nobby then fine I can see the level to which u r willing to help winmx users. Means no glory for yrself u r not willing to do it, huh?

Indeed there is no filtering but it does have blocking albeit from a location we do not wish to be used for such.

The blocking list must be obtained from the peer caches on telnet port 7930, this is a safeguard against the main site hosting blocklist list being attacked and blocking being lost.

I also notice this patch contains only non pie cache addresses of the DNS type, this is of course the more durable system of connecting as it allows for them to be shifted in the event of any point of failure.

Rest easy Stripes this is the most basic type of blocking patch and has nothing to do with winmx encryption inside it.

This patch poses no threat to anyone but it does look like a good time for pie to move up the technical ladder as this guys patch will be able to draw down a blocklist and connect folks without causing any "update time again "problems for them, in fact I urge them to make use of Uniques honourable gift of code to the community.

He has given a basic tool that can be updated and modified, lets not turn around to trash the good guys eh ppl.

1. I am not in charge of patch development, i do not have the technical knowledge to take on such a task.
2. I am not begging for WmW to do anything, it was WmW that approached me, i am simply looking to help drive the effort forward, and ensure that questions are asked and answers given when appropriate.
3. I dont want anything to call my own, i actually suggested any unilateral patch should have the coder credited in the patch and should be called the "community patch"

I have spoken to unique privately and asked for opinions from folks i trust with technical knowledge to look the patch over.

We already run with the WmW blocklist, whilst its true its not updated as quick as the .dll patch used here, it is light years ahead of the rogue pie team, who at very best rely on pg2 and lists, many dont even bother.

Thanks I installed the patch today again & I'm connected to WinMX right now with it as a secondary connection.
For some reason it wasn't working the 1st time I tried  it.

  I wanted to say I've been using this patch all day and getting a stable secondary connection. So far so good. Can someone remove the 1st file i posted please, that was for a bot. Sorry for the mixup.

for it to work does it require the ws2 file moving from program files for mx? and all the files for new patch in its place

  What I had to do is delete the oledlg file from the winmx folder and past in the 3 files from the zip file. Then i had to install the msvcp71.dll and it connected straight away. On my other pc i needed the msvcr71.dll, not sure what the difference is. I guess its because i have visual studio on one pc and not the other. i hate to say it (cos the install is so damn big) but installing the .NET framework will take care of the msvc problems....
