Real Player Panned For Secretly Installing "Advertising Engine"

Before you think about updating your real player folks keep that mouse finger dead still and read on ...

It’s been a long time coming but RealNetworks’ RealPlayer has finally being officially acknowledged as a very dodgy application.

"We find that RealPlayer 10.5 is badware because it fails to accurately and completely disclose the fact that it installs advertising software on the user’s computer," says Stopbadware.org, going on:
We additionally find that RealPlayer 11 is badware because it does not disclose the fact that it installs Rhapsody Player Engine software, and fails to remove this software when RealPlayer is uninstalled.

It seems the lure of the fast buck was too much for Real Networks, lets hope they shape up their offerings notification, before folks decide they no longer wish to be spoon fed advertisements during their online time.

Update RealPlayer? I don't even USE RealPlayer.

I have only RP 6.0 installed.
Downloading is an addiction I do not want to give up.

Real player has always been full of rubbish/spyware anyway just got worse over time.
Always best to use a separate application such as "your uninstaller" to uninstall files as this gets rid of all those stubborn registry keys etc that the standard add and remove leaves behind.

So what is rp6.0? Is that an earlier version of Real Player? I can't find it on Google. I do have RealAlternative 1.43.

Well what exactly is the point in having all these media players on your system anyway? For years I have thought Realplayer as spyware simply because it puts itself on your startup. It has always had some sort of advertising in it that I can recall. Windows Media Player is now applying it's DRM software to music files as I discovered myself. I now have all of its services disabled and won't even use it as it has edited my music folders in some way that it hides them from being able to be shared in WinMX. I have 3 other media players installed on my pc. 2 by my choice and one that came with Nero which I don't use either. The 2 I do use are Winamp and Cyberlink Powerdvd. I don't use Winamps play anywhere features. My point being I find it shamefull when I look on a user's pc and I see VLC, Winamp, Windows Media Player, MusicMatch (now Yahoo Media Player [also now or soon to be owned by Microsoft]), Realplayer, PowerDVD, Nero Media, WinDVD, and the list goes on and on. And people try to keep all this crap updated. And that's if the player itself doesn't try to update itself. It's a waste of resources, troublesome in general, and any user tryinig to use all of this software on 1 pc is only asking for troubles. Keep it as minimal as possible and know that you don't need all of this stuff. It's absolute junkiness!
When you wake up each morning always try to remember tomorrow is never your option, it's God's. Love like you want to. Live like you aren't afraid. And ALWAYS try to remember that even if it seems personal it's never as important as something you may have forgotten to do today.
