Industry Group - P2P Will Die In Two Years
« on: March 10, 2008, 10:12:12 am »
I love it when the smaller Cartel supporting groups make stupid predictions like this  :D

Quote
Some of North America's leading experts in peer-to-peer file sharing on the Internet are convinced that sooner rather than later – maybe within a couple of years – we won't be downloading music, movies and TV shows for free.
In fact, the consensus at Thursday's key panel discussion – The Evolution of Peer-to-Peer Music: From Enemy to Business Partner – in a day-long round of seminars during Canadian Music Week was not dissimilar to a controversial idea advanced just last month by the Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC).

SAC has proposed making it legal to share music on peer-to-peer networks in exchange for a monthly fee of $5 going to royalties for music's creators. But David Hughes, senior vice-president of the technology division of the Record Industry Association of America, suggests that business may find its own solution, with internet service providers charging some users an extra fee for their downloading habits. Downloading eats up precious bandwidth and slows down the network.

Eric Garland, CEO of BigChampagne, the California-based media measurement company that monitors digital music activity on the Internet, added: "Maybe the ISPs will have to find the bandwidth hogs and charge them extra; making it more difficult and expensive for ordinary subscribers to acquire bandwidth isn't a good strategy.

Whilst I found this amusing in that I saw no P2P experts" names figuring in the report you have to look at the core facts here and thats simply that the cartel supporters groups are waving the white flag to file-sharers.

Not only have they used up all the tricks in their arsenal but now they are in effect seeking to tell the media giants that they cannot win the battle, thus we see a quick fix solution being proposed, but will this be too little to late for most file-sharers to take notice of ?

There was me thinking that i pay a premium rate for unlimited bandwidth as it is ..... what a bunch of ill informed idiots these people are

Wouldn't be quite so bad if the isp`s  could actually provide this precious bandwidth they advertise in the 1st place let alone charge more for something we pay over the odds for already.

Perhaps while there at it they might also round up the fat cat hogs that rob the artists in the 1st place then spout this kind of crap to justify there existence and send them out into the real world and smell the roses.

What a bunch of total planks these idiots are  :x :x :x

I wonder how you define a "bandwidth hog" are they referring to users that purchase unlimited bw packages and use them? Oooooooohhhhhhh the shame, fancy that? using a service you pay for? terrible, i say hang em, hang all those nasty unlimited package owners.

Errrmmm opps that would be me

Yea ... but your forgetting the small print ..better known as fair usage... meaning unlimited up to a certain limit lol ...... something only an isp can seem to get away with legaly.

Well as i can see the cartel have not failed, thats if you class them making themselves looking like idiots again. Every ISP that i know of as an Fair Usage Policy, i have been with many of them ISP's and never have a problem. If these people really wanted to (by these people i mean the Recording Industries) they could invent and impliment many ways to stop Pirating of Copyrighted Material.

Yet i fail to see any reason why they have not given up yet. They try, they try some more and they try harder but with no luck. One word would sum them up (Gets Amazing Dictionary Of Stupid Insults Out) (Turns to Page 33) oh yeah this is the one "FOOLS".

If you all will remember a couple of years ago they said WinMX was dead. A statement we all proved false. They never once came back out and said "Hey! Some asshole group beat us on that!". None of you really think they're going to admit defeat openly on this do you? They will most likely pawn it off on ISPs to decide what to do with us like any other failing "boss". As for ISPs I think as long as they have their fair use policies in tact they've got what they want and could care less about the RIAA or the "starving" artists. This is not to say we're all out of the deep end on P2P. I think the RIAA will need some reason to claim their existence is needed so they can continue to scam artists themselves. Personally I think we're coming up on a very exciting time in P2P history. Be interesting to see what happens from here.
When you wake up each morning always try to remember tomorrow is never your option, it's God's. Love like you want to. Live like you aren't afraid. And ALWAYS try to remember that even if it seems personal it's never as important as something you may have forgotten to do today.

It would be good for all ISP's to be reminded that it is their customers who keep them afloat, not the Cartel.

ISP's have the inalienable right to totally ignore EVERYTHING that the Cartel says to them.

ISP's should tell the Cartel to not let the door slam on their backside on the way out.
