CRIA Forced To Retract Misleading News Release
« on: March 10, 2008, 11:54:17 am »
In their time honoured abuse of the national legal system we have seen the CRIA (the Canadian version of the Recording Industry Association Of America) have to retract a big news story they trumpeted to much fanfare.

The CRIA has been forced to confess to a massive screw-up involving audiomaxxx.com, taken down in an RCMP raid.

Earlier, “Following a year-long investigation by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), the RCMP has shut down Audiomaxxx.com Ltd., a major alleged music counterfeiting operation in Winnipeg, and filed criminal charges against four individuals,” said the Winnipeg Sun.

Meanwhile, the CRIA press release and site admit:

Toronto, March 7 /CNW/ - In the CRIA media release of March 6, it was erroneously reported that RCMP had filed criminal charges against four people in connection with the RCMP investigation into Audiomaxxx.com Ltd. CRIA has received information that no one has been charged with an offence in respect of this matter.
In the same media release, it was also reported that Raj Singh Ramgotra was among those arrested. CRIA cannot confirm the identities of any of those arrested and therefore retracts its statement to the effect that Mr. Ramgotra was arrested.

CRIA regrets the error.

So what do we have here folks ?

A story accusing people of criminal offences and mention of others of being arrested all withdrawn as an "error", a lot of police time and resources wasted by those proffering false information to the police, lets guess who they where *cough* CRIA *cough*, and as we have seen a few times now a website shut down on the sole word of the copyright gestapo, who now want to distance themselves from the whole event.

This sounds remarkably like the Oink closure and others we have seen over the last few years, make an accusation and delay the legal proceedings before admitting there is no proof of the claimed offences, if this is the new Cartel way of doing things they should bear in mind that there is liable to be a public backlash against them for abusing the legal system at the publics expense yet again.
