Folks I need your help, as you know recently we declared the network free of fake 1.x.x. traffic only to see it reappear.

We have at last tracked down the room responsible, thats the good news the bad news is that the host cannot be found and is merely operating the room as another portal to a room that is not causing a problem.

What I need is help in contacting the host of this room and ask them nicely to resolve the situation, the host of the room it redirects to claims to not be aware of who is operating this room, I can at least confirm that no-one in that room is the host of the other.

Here is a screenshot of the problem rooms name, and what I would like you do do is keep an eye open for anyone using your chat rooms who,s winmx user number (the 12 digits) matches the first 8 of this room. F0EFA156 <-IP 07D5 <--port , the port is going to be different but the iP will be the same, if you do come across this user please message them and ask them to upgrade their server version, and perhaps throw them a link to this post, and please remember folks the host may not be aware they are causing a network problem so please use common sense and offer to help them upgrade if your able.

The similarity stops at both being on the BT ISP Nobby, I would rather this debacle was cleared up as soon as possible as it detracts much from the network, besides if we do nothing to help ourselves resolve problems I feel we are sending out the wrong message.

lmao at room name and I thought the issue with 1.x.x.x was corrected in the new caches.

Well the critical issue of making the caches unusable has been resovled indeed, but there are many folks who would like to use different chat servers that have been rendered nuked due to this flooding, why do I get the feeling people think keeping the network open and working fine is a joke

well seen as this room is known and is causing a massive detriment to the community wouldnt adding it to the blocklist maybe make the room host notice that thier is something wrong when his room is becoming extremly unstable, i know it will prob find solice in a unpatched un protected primary if it can find one that isnt full of the media folks, but if it was blocked at the cache level and blocked at the patch, if all its connections where patched it would drop them all at once and would have to query the cache for new one's? Have you by any chance spoke to KM about blocking this person/client?

Unfortunately things are not so cut and dried Tiny, we cant add users to the blocklist for just any reason, if they where aware of the problems they where causing and then took no action it may have been possible but there is as yet no proof they are aware of the damage they are causing and so our hands are tied, this is the reason I asked for the communities help.

I have made KM aware of this room when we spoke recently but he seemed resigned to the fact that there is not much he could do that I couldnt, in short we need the host to update from the version they are on voluntarily, this is the best option as we all benefit from that scenario.

Although i dont agree with policing the network i agree with silver stripes and sometimes things should be done for the greater good .... this room definatly being a case in point.

This is starting to look more an more like its being done on purpose if you ask me, i still think my suggestion is a way forward, as its apparent sitting here hoping isnt doing anything.

I think its only wise to demonstrate a pattern Tiny, if someone asks for evidence of anything I say I will be able to show this thread.

I wouldnt mind one bit to see this room of the network.... i dont have anything against sex. porn and what have you not but this ?

URGH !!! god only knows what is going on in that room...only speak of incest and tabboo...but kiddieporn certainly springs to mind here...

Is there still trouble with this room? I did check out the exact room as posted in this thread and they appear to be hosted on the same IP address. Being as you can't host on secondery it would be impossible for both rooms to have same IP address and as shown only difference is the ports. I tried twice to be sure.

It is the same host, both rooms are the same 5EFEA3560 +port.

And with the change of address looks like its moved from one host to another, either they are really dumb, and have only updated one WCS thinking that will do, or this is infact a attack done on purpoes to this fine network.

Your patience quicks has been noticed and your logic is correct but this is a down right disgrace, adding that address to the blocklist is far from abusing the list, as that is the reason why that list is their in the first place. To protect the good users from abuser's. Im glad you patience is stronger than mine.

Ok folks it seems like we have the suspects in our sights with this latest pic.

It now clear the host of the problem server is operating two chat rooms from their location. this is of course at odds with previous statements made by the room host Lisa who stated she was unaware of who was hosting the problem room last time we spoke to her.

Hmm, moving foward I went in to the room to ask Lisa the host once again to update, after this occured I spoke to Lisa on MSN and explained that its nothing to do with the room name she is using as she believed (we dont get involved in that sort of dispute), but the server version, once this was accepted I was given assurances of an update.

Let us hope she keeps her word and this closes the problem once and for all.

Isn't this the second goround with her and the screwy server? Perhaps if the knife were a little sharper to begin with keeping a good edge on the blade wouldn't be so difficult. I'd say regardless this should be about the last goround with her on this subject. Although it seems a strong approach perhaps she'd rather make Ares her home for her since obviously she cares very little about the wellbeing of WinMX.

Actually nooky.. if you spoke to her reasonably you'd find she's a nice & intelligent young lady & not obstructive.. however as a long term host myself, apparently random ppl appearing & trying to get one to close room isn't new, had it happened in mine, they'd also have found themselves out on their ear... how is she to know ghost is any different from the last idiot in trying to cause her strife? Particularly using some new name she's quite possibly never seen before...

From talking to her myself, i happen to know she doesn't even *like* WCS, getting her to change therfore shouldn't have been so very hard, didn't realise that was her room though (hadn't associated it in my mind), had i realised i may well have spoken to her myself...

As I suspected plenty of folks come out the woodwork to say how they would have helped but...

The only reason this has been resolved is that I have made it my concern to try to resolve it.

This is not the first time I have been in that room to ask the host to upgrade and I am not the first person to have visited the room either as Nooks points out, this is just one of many visits.

Should it actually matter who went in the room after all, I though the fact that Lisa had not been forthcoming about hosting this room before when asked would have made it patently obvious that a strong line should be the way forward, and yes I agree Lisa is certainly not stupid, the problem seems to be she thought everyone else was.
