WinMX shares losing file extension???????
« on: March 30, 2008, 09:45:40 pm »
I run 3.54 beta 4 on XP Pro.

Somebody wanted a small program that I had shared.   I checked in the library, and it was shared.   I copied and pasted the name into the room so they could find it in my browse.   It then was not shared.   I went into the actual folder where it is located and it had lost the.exe from the end of the name, and was no longer showing.   I simply renamed it and added back the .exe on the end of the name.  The folder is set to show file extensions, and other files in the folder still showed their file extensions, such as another .exe and a .txt file, and they still showed in my library.   When I renamed it from  "Burning Software 120%" back to "Burning Software 120%.exe" I did not get a Windows warning about changing file extensions, like you can do.

Anybody know why the name would change and loose the file extension?

(Actual program name not used because I think I got yelled at for doing that once.)

in most cases ppl name there files with . in, ie ANYDVD.v6.4.0.4.exe      when it comes to copying it u will lose the exe, rar, zip w/e extention it is, just rename them instead of putting a fullstop in put a comma in then u wont lose the exe example ANYDVD,v6,4,0,4.exe hope this helps u out.

Only 1 full stop in the file name and that is just before the exe.   I just tried a few more, and if I highlight a file in my library, hit rename, it immediately removes the .file extension off the end of the name.   Then if I click elsewhere it goes back to having the .file extension on the end of the name again.   I usually do this because after I select rename it highlights the name and it is easy to copy and paste it into a room.   Think I will just have to watch and see if and when it occurs again, because now it is not doing it.

I have had this happen to me before when making changes in the library window, unfortunately its one of the bugs will will have to live with as there will be no new versions released to fix it.

Golden rule : never rename or copy anything in the WinMX library,  always go to the file folder itself.

when I F2 to copy a filename I hit escape after, rather than  enter
There are 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary and those who don't.
