This sort of error occurs when either your incoming files folder or the shared folder of the person who has the file you want has changed.

In the first case you can check your own folder is at the correct location by ensuring its listed in "File Transfers" menu in the "Settings" box, it could be an idea to re-point the folder to your incoming files location as a re-install would lose any non standard location details, by default mx looks for shared files in the "My Documents\My Music\"  folder.

If the problem is on the other end of the connection can I suggest sending the user a message to ask them to either reshare the file by refreshing their library or place the external drive back on that has been removed, something many forget to do.

Another possibility is that the file is in use or being blocked from being shared by a security program or application, although this is rare its a possibility, normaly just pointing mx to where your files are currently held fixes the problem.

I used to get this error, or one that looked an awful lot like it,  periodically when i had my incoming file folder on an external drive.  After WinMx had been running a while, the drive would stop responding.

Changed file location, no difference

the file it says it is rying to access is marked "read only" in the files attributes.. when I change that, it goes right back to read only. Only the newest files I try to d/l are showing up this way.  I have admin rights etc, I dont get it.

Markndawoods, can you clarify whether your trying to obtain a fresh file or complete a half finished  one please as that will tell us whether the problem is your end or the other end, also can you ensure you have no media players in the system tray where the clock is or in the task manager, these have been known to index a folder and block access to it by other apps including winmx, and have you tried creating a new folder for your incoming files and moved the incompletes there ? (that is if your in fact finishing incompletes).

You can reload your incompletes from the transfer screen once you have moved them to a new folder, preferably on a different drive
