WinMX Outdated???
« on: May 31, 2008, 05:51:52 am »
Good Day...  I'm new to this Forum...  But in no way New to WinMX...  I've been using WinMX, since the 1.0X Versions...  But I'm starting to wonder if WinMX 3.54 Beta has become Outdated???

I use to be able to put in one or two words to a song title and get 1,000 results, over half of which were what I was looking for...  Now if I try that or even use the Exact Song Title or Artist Name it takes minutes before I get a result and lately I only get a couple of dozen at most and usually over half of those are Queued for like 99...

So can anyone tell me what has happened to WinMX???  Are people using and Downloading that WinMX 2008 that comes up when you Google WinMX???  Or have the WinMX users gone elsewhere entirely???

Just seems so hard to get search results anymore, plus when you do get the song you want and try to download it, the person you are getting it from will disconnect on you about 10% into the song...  So  you wait a minute or 2 and search again and that same person pops up, so you try to download again and another 5% into the song they Disconnect you...  What's up with that???

Thanks for your time...  I hope I came to the right place to get some answers...

Hi Bafitis, I don't suppose you have any of the earlier winmx versions sitting about as I,m missing some from that early period for the archive  :)

From the problems you suggest it could be a few issues that are affecting you such a internal IP change, ports being blocked or Anti-virus/firewall software blocking traffic it deems  an "attack", if you have solved your problem please let us know what the cause was so others can benefit from your solution.

As you know we do our best here to try to ensure we post in the right places and times to attract fresh users but as you may have guessed we need many people doing this sort of activity to ensure we remain vibrant, that being said, I havent seen any major drop in the userbase since last year when Winmxgroup closed and recently following a news article on zeropaid we had many thousands of new folks and many old hands making their way back to the network, as your well aware winmx is like an old friend, always there for you and always delivering, we hope to continue doing our best for folks like yourself who have watched winmx evolve and hope to announce some suprises in the way of new clients for the network later on in the year that hopefully will finally turn the tide of folks thinking that no one cares or is bothering, this most certainly is not the case.

... also, I don't think mx is outdated because I personally haven't seen anything that does the job better. Torrent is all the rage, but doesn't allow the thousands of shared files that mx can.

Yeah I noticed that it wasn't Outdated myself...  For some reason, though I have NEVER had the problem before, I found myself a Victim to the Blockage of Ports and I had to "Forward" my Ports as the term goes...  Found the whole situation a bit annoying, but it's back to running like it was before and my DL times are evening faster, so I'm pleased...

As for older Versions, I will check what I have against the Archive list, but I'm doubting I'll have anything that you don't...  Normally after a few weeks, after I'm sure the newer version is working, I'll end up deleting the former...  Especially if I'm upgrading computers or something...  When upgrading my computer, I'll normally take the latest versions of programs that works and has the least amount of bugs...
If I do notice that I have something, I'll be sure to let you know and I'll be happy to send it to you...  I've been using WinMX almost since it came out, but I don't hang onto those files once I've got something newer, if you understand me...

Winmx certain has everything it needs.
Might not look as "modern" and cool as other clients
but it usually doesn't hog memory and that's the main thing.

The only feature that does make life a trifle trouble some is the inability to search for extensions other than the default ones (although the any file search can be used but it simply gives too many results)

having no limits to the amount of files shown in a browse would have been great.
but then again when it (3.54b4) was released I guess the maximum no of files for any user would have barely crossed 1000 considering 40gb was the standard hdd size then.... and that broadband speeds we only just beginning to take a foothold.

I guess this is the only time I don't appreciate moore's law :P :D

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Spread the word now :)
