Things are looking drastic for AFACT, instead of reporting sensibly on issues of concern to their members they are indulging in RIAA/MPAA style
fantasy propaganda.
http://www.zeropaid.com/news/9715/AFACT+-+Downloading+Movies+More+Lucrative+Than+HeroinIn a recently published "report", people downloading content online is being likened to biker gangs involved in things like drug dealing.
The report blurs the lines between downloading and physical piracy and quotes anti-piracy operations located in Australia. Blurring these distinctions, if one wants to produce an accurate report, is an extremely risky proposition at best - but it gets worse. The report goes as far as calling BitTorrent "piracy technologies"
ISPs in Australia have recognized that the technology to discern between legitimate p2p traffic and unauthorized p2p traffic doesn't even exist today.
What would cause AFACT (Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft) to get an Australian news source to spout misleading information specifically? Perhaps it's the fact that local ISPs in Australia didn't play ball with AFACT when they wanted them to be copyright police.
I,m not sure about you folks but I am pretty sure you don't need a gang of drugged up bikers to courier around copies of the latest Charlotte Church album .. or maybe you do
Lets hope this pro industry monopoly group don't ask for public funds to finance their fantasies as I for one would write to make an objection to this mindless propaganda material that clearly written
by morons for morons and I,m certain the public shouldn't have to suffer to pay for this sort of pot fuelled delusion from a group of bored executives.
