Winmx queve dropping in mysterios waves
« on: October 17, 2008, 08:05:04 pm »
This problem have disturbed me ever since the invasion of Saddams international airport if i remember right   :educated:
but i have not just hade energy to post until now

When i go to sleep and leave winmx online for it self, i wake up and find that i have perhaps 80 users in my queve, as soon as
i start to move the mouse and generaly give life to my conputer, the queve starts slowly to dropp of along with it, and it goes to
fasst to be a coincedence, i can dropp from 25 to 5 in queve in 5 minutes
when its low enough, the queve slowley starts to build up again, no matter if im active with certain other tasks, so there it talk against

my ignore list is not long at all, i imagine people having trouble to stay in my queve, and i have no idea what message thei get when their items goes red, and when i dropp major of the users its not like new users comepensate at the same time drung this strange procces, thei start to flow til at the same time and that is when the queve is under 10

is my computer perhaps to weak, and have to many processes active that goes out over winmx?
once again it feels like this problem could have made its debute as soon as i buyed my current computer (who is a bit moore powerful than the prev perm 100-queve computer) which was same year as frontcode dies, so the troubleshooting making it not so easy for me

have a
Athlon 2.4 Gb
2 Gb ram
win xp sp4 with connection limit patch
Adsl 4-mbit connection
no router! just a modem
winmx 3.53 (have allso tested with the latest beta)

Hi Bla_Mocka,

I've read this and been doing some thinking about the issue.  It does seem to be related to the New system but as you say, you've had that a while now so we must go about diagnosing as usual.
First of all there is no sp4 for XP, so I'm wondering then 'Do you have Win2K with sp4' or 'Do you have Win XP sp2 or sp3'

Do you use primary or secondary on WinMX?
Your machines specs do seem sufficient to handle WinMX in Primary but maybe there is something going on that the machine or WinMX is only detecting the connections are no longer alive when you wake the machine up.  Maybe try using the other (ie; if your on primary normally, use secondary for a few days, if your on secondary normally try primary for a few days)

So that makes me wonder, when you say 'wake up' do you let your machine turn anything off while idle?  Like the Control Panel > Energy Saving settings?  It maybe worth making sure that the only thing happening when the machine is idle is the screen saver may come on.  Any other energy saving settings could be affecting your connections to some users.

I also had the thought, do you use MSN?  Msn has the 'set status to away after idle for so many minutes'  Could it (or something similar) be being woke up at the same time which congests the 'Keep Alive' data that WinMX uses to recheck status with queued users.  Not sure thats really a stretch there to think it maybe.  If you do use Instant messanger programs maybe shut them down when you go to bed, so that your not waking them up when you move the mouse and see if this makes any difference.

I would also suggest that since you mentioned the Connection Limit Patch that you recheck that by re running that patch, often updates like to new service packs disable this patch you applied and resets your limit back to 10, also not a likely candidate for this issue but if its reverted back it wont hurt to re do it, and if it hasnt you can cancel that procedure.

Try those things for me Bla_mocka and get back to us here.
