The company offered few details on why it was releasing the software update, which is rated critical for users of Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. A critical flaw is worrisome, however, because it can be exploited by online attackers to seize control of the PC.
Also there has been news on the Vista front, with the date set for a service pack 2 beta release.

As speculated earlier this week, the new Vista Service Pack 2 will incorporate all fixes released since Service Pack 1, along with a slew of new improvements aimed at increasing support for new hardware and technology standards.

Is it me folks or was one of the major reasons for wanting folks to contact MS all the time the promised move away from having service packs, I thought the plan was to upgrade as you go with smaller more regular updates, and yet here we are back to the old ways, so it seems all the talk is mere hyperbole, something it seems with the failure of Vista to seize the market, we are seeing more clearly.
