Author Topic: Having problems uploading, maybe downloading (Read 1424 times)

I think I'm having a common problem here...

Lately, and I don't know what changed, I rarely have anyone trying to upload files. Those that do time out. I'm also very seldom able to successfully download anything. I'm using Cox, cable modem, a router to a laptop, and Vista. I've downloaded the patch.

Hi Davehal

Have you ever tried to forward your ports on your modem? Also could you allow winmx through all your firewalls.

I've not tried forwarding the ports. I THINK I have the firewalls taken care of. I went through the Windows firewall setup and I'm pretty sure I've got that right.

Any info on forwarding the ports? I've been to the port forward (?) website, but what I see keeps referring to routers.

The modem is a Cisco/Linksys BEFCMU10. Since the router is only supporting a separate laptop, it it an issue? It's a Netgear WGR614 v 9.

No both of these modems/routers can be forwarded I have given you the pages. You can have as many connections as you want to connect to winmx and have the ports forwarded. I have given you the pages for both of them.

I'm figuring it out slowly. Thanks for the help so far.

Typing in the IP address for the Linksys modem I get a page that bears no resemblance to this one

Mine is the BEFCMU10.

From memory that series is almost the same. Have a go if not i will find another page.

To get your internal ip you will need to do this:

You can find out what a machines internal IP is by doing the following:
Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Command/MSDos prompt.
In the black DOS box type in ipconfig for getting the ip of one machine.
Type ipconfig /all to get the Gateway and Internal IP of the machine.
