The RIAA has now openly attacked Recording Industry vs The People, Ray Beckerman, the New York lawyer who runs it, and Richard Stallman’s Free Software Foundation.The attack centres on the ongoing RIAA vs Joel Tenenbaum case with judge Nancy Gertner presiding over it.“The RIAA’s nonsensical, ad hominem attack on me, on my blog, and on the Free Software Foundation, none of which had anything to do with theimportant issues that the Judge has to consider, merely called attention tothe weakness of its legal position,” Beckerman told p2pnet, going onThe 9-page response, four pages longer than the document to which it was responding, termed the FSF an organization ‘dedicated to eliminating restrictions on copying, redistribution, and modifying computer programs,’ and accused the FSF of having an ‘open and virulent bias against copyrights’ and ‘blatant bias’ against the record companies.They called Recording Industry vs The People an ‘anti-recording industry web site’ .But, “Judge Gertner is nobody’s fool, and, unfortunately for the RIAA, can read,” says Beckerman.“In SONY BMG Music Entertainment v. Tenenbaum, the RIAA has requested leave to file a brief responding to the amicus curiae brief filed by the Free Software Foundation,” says RIvTP, adding the as well as the ad hominem attacks on (a) the Free Software Foundation, (b) “Recording Industry vs. The People”, and (c) Ray Beckerman, the proposed response states Beckerman is, “subject to a pending sanctions motion” in UMG Recordings v. Lindor, “but neglects to advise the Court that the RIAA’s lawyers are ’subject to a Rule 11 sanctions motion’ in that same case”.
