port forwarding probs
« on: October 22, 2005, 01:22:09 pm »
hi all.i have set my static ip, opened my ports 6699 in my router  and firewall and folowed all instructions in the port forwarding site, but when i try to make primary connection ikeep getting "you cannot make a primary connection to the winmx peer network for the following reasons"
no TCP port for incoming connections
no UDP port for incoming and outgoing packets.
i am running win2k, dynalink rta100+ modem/router, mcafee firewall and the latest winmx patch.

can someone tell me what i should do to get this corrected.thanks

Farkamhall,
Welcome to the forum...

Ok sounds like you followed the instructions well, the thing that Portforward doesnt mention is setting also a UDP port in your router.

You should go back and set this with the same steps as your TCP port with these changes only:

WinMX  6257 to 6257...UDP....internal IP ... Enable
Then apply this new rule also..

As far as WinMX not able to make the connections..

Be sure that once you have set these ports up in your router you go to WinMX Settings > Internet Connections > Incoming TCP  change this to 'Listen on port  6699 for incoming TCP'
Now look at IN/OUT UDP change this to 'Able to Send and Receive on port 6257'

Now be sure you have allowed WinMX in your Firewall also..

Once these are done restart your WinMX and attempt a primary connection.

Keep me informed how you do...
