Why do some people's files seem to be all gibberish?

Why do so many browsesproduce long lists of files in gibberish?  Often, but not always, it's the ones whose names are also gibberish.  Am I missing something?  Are they working in some format that I have to only adjust a setting for everything to become clear?

What's the protocol for dealing with such users? Even if they're sharing 5000 files,if it'sin gibberish,I can't understand it. It might as well be none.  So shall I do as I usually do: browse them, ask them politely to share their files, if they don'y cancel them, if it happens again ignore thgem.

Please help! I am growing to love WinMX. I am stilkl learning  but one day soon I'm going to post one of those "How to" guides and I'll make a proper job of it!!!!

well considering only 36% of internet users claim english as their native language, i would hardly consider it surprising that once and a while you might come across one of the 64% of internet users who speak a different language...

This may look like gibberish to you and I, but if you have the correct language files installed on WinMX you might be able to read it..

Well i dont mind that at all.I have downloaded numerous movies with chinese subtitles,it doesnt bother me. Try not to download french german italian divx, because most(if not all) are dubed.Unless you want to hear Arnold with a sissy voice talking german(no offense to the Germans, just dubing is awful imho).

I can explain a little more.

Asian languages anf somes others, are using two bytes characters instead of one byte like english.  If you try to go on an asian web site, what happen ?  You mostly see littles squares instead of chineeses ideogram because asian language support is not installed in you Windows.

That annoyed me so i've installed support for all languages of the world.  Now i can see asians web sites correctly but i still don't understand them.  But, that laguage support doesn't affect WinMX file listing.

But that's not a problem 'cause most of the time, thoses files can be downloaded like any normal names files.  I could simply advise you to stop browsing asian people but that's not really....  

For me, i prefer using the search window dans download only files i can read the name.  :roll:

because we had someone on the site come back and edit his existing post instead of replying, which as you can imagine made it extremely hard to try and follow what was going on... so we had to disable editing
