A trial in Sydney could determine whether internet service providers (ISPs) can be held responsible for their users' pirated content.

If they are it will be the end of the internet at least in Australia, the idea of owning an ISP will become so unappealing, as you will simply be sued for the cartels idea of "losses" left right and centre, that most if not all will have to shut down.

'He further said it is relevant to that analysis to show that, at least at the point in time in question, the body charged with combating piracy for the Applicants/one of the Applicants themselves thought that such a course of action was reasonable enough to make submissions to the Attorney-General about streamlining such a procedure.'

Not sure what these processes are but sounds like they want to be the spanish inquisitors.

From the main article...

AFACT, the mob working for the RIAA, made requests of the ISP which the ISP thought were unreasonable (to the point they felt AFACT shouldn't be demanding without a court order), but which AFACT thought were reasonable enough that they have made a submission to the attourney generals department to streamline the process.

I think the process is probably handing over information about users, tracking a users data or cutting a user off. AFACT want to be able to legally request this info under certain circumstances without a court order.

For this to be effective it will require removing large numbers of users from the internet. At that point the isps will realise that it's costing them a lot of money by being cooperative !!!!!
