« on: November 09, 2005, 07:09:13 pm »
 Yoh? My settings dont save on  :x WinMX, i have to re-configure everything.. like the max downloads i can have, and the uploads, and even my shared folders/incoming files folder wont work... so i need to share a folder when i open winMX, and i need to set a folder for my incoming files ... it doesn't take very long---  :!: like 2 minutes, but ive been using the new winmx for about a 9 days + its EXTREMELY annoying doing the same configurations everyday - and knowing ure gonna have to do it again the next day...

Yes Bizzare,

That can be very annoying.

Try this for me
Delete any shorcuts you have
Desk and Start Menu.

Now go to the Start Menu and 'Right Click'  choose 'Explore'

From here scroll through the list of Files and folders on the left until you get to your 'Program Files' .. Under this you should see the WinMX folder.

Click on this once to open this folder.

Now on the right side of the screen, 'Right Click' on the WinMX.exe file and choose 'Send to...'

On that list choose 'Desktop Create Shortcut'.

Now you can close this window and you will have a shortcut on your desktop for the New Version of your WinMX.  Use this to start your WinMX at this time.. Set up the settings that you want if they are not already there for you this time.  This should be the last time you need to do this.

Let me know if this helped you out..If you see more then one folder with WinMX on it, be sure to use the folder marked WinMX only.

Bizzaro... sowwey ..

With WinMX open and  running I need you to see if you have a file inside the folder named Settings.dat file and also Library.dat file

Actually after thinking a moment can you just get me a list of all files in that folder please

Thanks

Here's a thing to try, With WinMX up & running copy settings.dat & Library.dat (may be lib4.dat) to the desktop.

Close WinMX

Paste these files back into the program folder & restart WinMX, your settings should now all be there..

Then close & Restart WinMX again to see if they stay..
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

ok I am not sure why its not reading your previous settings at all... if there is a settings.dat file in the WinMX folder it should be keeping that info for the next time you boot it up...

So my next idea is to redownload the Install 1.9.

I say that because it has a WinMX.exe file in it and the patch. Before you do this I want you to take that current WinMX Folder and rename it to WinMX2 so that the new install doesnt overwrite it

Then remember about the shortcut and let me know..

see if you are able to manually patch it, try getting this file and putting it in your winmx directory (c:\program files\winmx by default)

https://www.winmxworld.com/files/ws2_32.dll

that is the actual patch itself, the installer just installs winmx and the patch and also does the various bendmx and rcms fixes but those probably aren't an issue in most cases :-)
