Prefer 3.31?
« on: November 11, 2005, 04:47:41 am »
The new Install 1.9 patch has several great features to it.  Now this is not an ad for that.

Some folks have been asking if its possible to keep their older versions of WinMX and use the new patch, the answer is Yes!

The Install 1.9 includes the following:
Version 3.53 and the Olepro32.dll
Version 3.54 beta 4 and the Ws2_32.dll

So below for you folks that would prefer to keep the version of WinMX you have are the connection patches by themselves.

For Operating systems XP/2000:
https://www.winmxworld.com/files/ws2_32.dll

For Operating Systems 98/ME:
https://www.winmxworld.com/files/olepro32.dll

Just place those into your folder with your WinMX.exe file and restart.

If you have BendMX or RCMS then then be sure to rename this Patch as follows:
Rename the Patch file to WS2_32r.dll for BendMX.
Rename the Patch file to WS2_32o.dll for RCMS.

If you dont connect immediately then Please reboot the computer to flush any previous DNS of the machine, then restart you WinMX when you get back online.

Technical notes:
Quote
If you have BendMX or RCMS then then be sure to rename this Patch as follows:
Rename the Patch file to WS2_32r.dll for BendMX.
Rename the Patch file to WS2_32o.dll for RCMS

This will require that you overwrite the existing versions of these files, this is both ok & normal, though if you want to be super cautious rename them so you can revert later if you wish.

Also if you are or have been using the Hosts file fix, either from here or Vladds, please revert to the standard hosts file first, the two solutions don't coexist well.

Unusual scenario:
If you're using WinMX 3.31 & windows 9x/ME with Bend MX:

you will need to rename olepro32.dll to olepro32o.dll in the same way that 2K/XP platform users do with ws2_32.dll
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

Thanks for that Bearded Blunder

That is correct.

For those needing to get the original hosts file, if you didnt save yours at the time of installing a hosts file fix for WinMX you can find a copy of that here:

https://www.winmxworld.com/files/original_hosts_file.zip

This is a copy of the origianl as it is with all Windows Operating systems..

there is also a much simpler way to do it btw...

install 1.9 of the patch, then install 3.31 over the top of it :-)

you can get the 3.31 installer from the winmxworld archive...

Hi Supervisor.  I have WinMX 3.31.  Is there a patch for that version, or do I have to install the newer version?  I haven't been able to find anything on the site about it.  Thanks for the great web site.  It's very helpful.

Hi Gang,   My service provider (Ontera) has throttled back WinMX default ports, I connect as a primary, but can't get anything other than dial up speeds for my downloads.

People conecting to me are getting up to 50Kb per second speeds depending on how many slots are being used.

Changed the incoming TCP listen to 7112 and the in/out UDP setting to 22 and all is well.   Obviously use port numbers that work with your hardware setup.

There are Port checking Web sites on the Net you can test with if you are stuck.

Happy New Year (and downloading) To you all in 2006
Kind regards,   Tom.

I am a Win98 user.
I place the ws2_32.dll in the WinMX file, and when I try to load WinMX v3.31 again, it said "fail to initialize winsock, program terminating".
What should I do now?

that patch does not work for windows 98, go to www.winmxgroup.com and it will install 3.53 with the 3.53 patch, if you really want 3.31 then you can replace 3.53 with 3.31 but you need the 3.53 patch

Is there a need for Peerguardian with this new patch?
Peerguardian seems to kill most of the secondary connections anyway.......

Hi Hoho

No there is not, it may be of some benefit if your hosting as PG2 has some added ips that seem to make a lot of UDP floods to primary users however if your not hosting and having to maintain a good UDP connection to folks I see not real need to run it.
