people cannot enter my room
« on: March 29, 2012, 01:20:04 pm »
wcs 1.8.3.1     winmx 3.54b4   opensuse 12.1   kde  4.7

have just switched to 'offline mode'  in wcs  and now no one can enter my room.
Is there some other setting i must change for this to work?
i am behind a router {asus rt-n16 - wired] using tomatousb for firmware.

not sure where to start looking to solve this problem!
thanks

yes they cannot enter     even if they enter it manually

by manually I mean that i get the channel name and send it to whomever by pm
they copy & paste it in the address bar in winmx channel page

this is an error that one person rec'd:
Quote
[15:48:00] Error. :( ..this Bot could n0t enter 192.168.1.159.
[A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not
properly respond after a period of time, or established connection
failed because connected host has failed to respond.

others receive no MSG they just cant enter

thanks

192.168.1.159 is your internal IP address that can only be reached from within your home network.

For people to enter your room from the outside you need to find out your external IP address.
With that people should be able to enter your room if you use the following format:  YourRoomName_ExternalIP:port ,

i.e. for instance   MyRoom_12.34.56.78:6998

If you need more help with I suggest you come by our room WinMxWorld.Com Help_2D5F7657BABE
From there someone should be able to help and test things out.

thank you  nylly
you have been a help to me more than once  and I truly appreciate it.

the external ip did the trick, altho I never gave out my interal ip I suppose it is attached to the room name.  Is that supposed to be the way it is?  Or have I set something up wrong.

Could you recommend to me a site or person  that would help me with a router setup?  I would really like to check my setup to see if I have done everything right.  Sometimes I wonder if that is part of my problem.
Asus RT-N16 [wired only]  running tomatousb firmware  on opensuse 12.1 kde 4.7

Also, I guess, if I am in offline mode [wcs 1.8.3.1] will i have to get my RoomName_external ip:port
every time I change ip's, which does happen as I don't have a static ip externally, only internally from my router.  Is this where DynDns or the like come in?

Actually there's no way around your room loosing all it's members whenever your IP changes - the room might stay up but they will all need to reenter.

The room hash does in fact reflect the IP address of the room, so it will change with your IP every time...
As for the router setup you might have a look around here in the help or tutorial section... :walk:
