Author Topic: cannot download from one other winmx user (Read 4334 times)

I know this has been written about before, but a search of the forums is not bringing anything up. Maybe I am not asking the ? in the right way. If anyone can point me to the info, I would appreciate it.

Generally, on the whole I have no problems downloading from anyone, but occasionally one comes along. I can get the download started, but it always times out on me. I would like to be able to download from this person and am wondering what I and they can check/change to allow the downloads to happen.

They are DSL/Windows and we are fibre/Linux, if that makes a difference.

just to clarify, does the download start and then time out, or is it timing out on establishing connection?

It times out trying to establish a connection. no packets exchanged at all.

if the problem is unique only to each other and you can both upload/download fine with other users it sounds a lot like perhaps one of your ip's is on the others blocklist like peerblock or the like.

They can browse my files and I can browse theirs, so I would think it can't be a peerblock type situation.
Although, at times I have to reboot Winmx for one or the other of us to get a 'Whois' or Browse.
Neither of us can download from each other.
I'm sry I was not clear about that in OP.

primary or secondary connect? if either one is on secondary the browse function goes to a primary... a different ip...

It could be an ISP block that detects the "get" or "send" plaintext request in the file exchange, have you tested with another network such as gnutella to ensure this is not the case , alternatively can you both log into open nap and see what happens in that realm ?
