Mac Firmware Proof-of-Concept Malware
« on: August 05, 2015, 05:48:42 am »
Researchers plan to present proof-of-concept malware that infects Apple
systems' firmware and persists even when users wipe the hard drive and
reinstall OS X. The demonstration will also show how the malware, called
Thunderstrike 2, can spread from MacBook to MacBook even if they are not
networked.

and again... firmware should be protected with a hardware based measure like a jumper or dipswitch.... i have an old laptop that the keyboard had to be unscrewed and a dipswitch hiding beneath flipped before i could update the bios.... something similar should be a standard feature in -all- hardware...

apple products that need a firmware update could simply be taken to an apple store for those not comfortable taking a screwdriver to their shiny toy...
