Since my isp has now decided to block p2p connections I am wondering if it possible to connect to a different site and use that site to access winmx? THat way it would appear that the download is coming from an "approved" site? I have excellent speed for everything else.

Many thanks

Hi medhist,

We have several users that are having the same troubles as yourself, it is possible to purchase a proxy and run WinMx, some others on the site know a bit more about that procedure then I, so I will allow them to comment on that.

Some users have had good luck trying to run WinMx on non-standard ports, only problem is not all non standard ports will work, so this is trial and error process, and can be time consuming to make sure that the ports are set correctly in your router/modem, firewalls, anti virus and also in WInMx.  There is a list of some that I would suggest testing as they are normally used for other applications and blocking them would be a bad idea for any ISP.  You can find them here:

Its also a good idea to have a look around the net, and see what ports are working for others with your ISP and in your area, ,for example I know many Rogers customers that are able to use 1720 TCP and 3339 UDP, but a few I have talked to these didnt work either..

Let me know if you have some luck with any of them.. so that we can let others know to try them..

Simpler fix is complaining than dropping them as your provider and if you can get a group of friends that use them as there provider to do the same on the same day ISP's will soon learn they are there to provide Internet access not restricted access.

I just set mine to the ports my ISP uses, lol. Think they would cut their own service?
