I,ll be happy to find something for you to help on  :)

I do understand that folks want some sort of leadership but you can see why we have taken a back seat on a lot of things, the ensuing heated debates end up wasting everyones time and thats why no one has stepped forward to demand change, merely suggest it.

One again, I thank you for your offer and I,m sure we will come up with something you will be happy in bringing to the community, cheers  8)

BTW , I,ll use the site PM System to contact you.

Now please don't say I'm ripping you off or riducling you. some how, I feel there are drawbacks..
Post yor views if you disagree.

but compared to 1 to 3 years ago you could search for ANYTHING and you would get heaps of results that where, for the post part, valid. It wasn't till this last year that I noticed a very huge drop in files.
I do a search for anything and I get around 100-150 results or less (this is for semi popular things). Now I’m not just talking about MP3’s I’m talking about files.Like I said I'm not blaming anyone. I'm only saying with the naked eye I see a major drop in files compared to the past and this makes newer people scare away and find something else to use as their primary p2p client.

"but compared to 1 to 3 years ago"
1.> You have a discontinuity there.
Winmx was shut down 2 years ago and then brought back. There will then be an obivious drop in users
2.> May I ask specificially if that was from june? As that was when the fake file blocking was started... And the flooders attacked for a few months before mx was shut down as well.
3.> Of all those sources, how many worked, on a % basis if possible.

main point (actually it is tiny's) is, most of those so called drops must have been fakes.

"use as their primary p2p client."

Most people wont' change  I am such case. i used primarily Imesh , even though I had winmx even before I found Imesh. Why didn't I use winmx? People said Imesh was better, so I took their word and never checked...

"hey may even get old  sites that tell them to download the MX client from another site and use their hosts file to connect. See what i'm saying.? MX could be allot more organized."

Winmxgroup hits first when you search for winmx in google and winmxworld 3 (2 was wikipedia I think)
the next site offering a patch v44, came 12th.

now for your points

1.> I don't have much idea on this lol sorry, the ideas can be implemented and are great, but ask those who maintain it (ie, the supervisors)

2.> The fix for winmx was digged, I even registered an account on digg just to digg the story. The idea of posting winmx on blogs and all is good, the only problem is, why will people do it? and who is going to ask them? (on a largescale basis)

3.> I don't know about that, you might want to try it out and see how it does...

4.> I collect speeches lol. and believe me, I've had to face, no results more than once, but on a little effort I can find them. And I can find them more easily now, I've seen more results for them... up from 30-35 to about 60-70 now. I collect most WWII stuff and any of historical figures not of that era as well. I share 4200 + files which are mostly uncommon...

5.> Again, try asking and see if it works, no one will do it unless he or she uses and loves winmx. Most won't. I don't have any contacts who run sites that i can ask to put links on...
The grey area of P2P might also be a deterent to them to putting links...

6.> Ask the programmers, if they agree well and good.

I'll ask you to do one small thing:  Recommend winmx to a friend who regularly uses P2P (I know you have ...) The first question will be:
"How fast is it"
It was in my case, four out of five times and was the second question on the fifth case lol.
Torrents can max out your conenction speeds, something that you can't usually do on winmx....
So does limewire

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Spread the word now :)

@SamSeeSam thats understandable that the numbers would drop but shortly after it went down, sites all over the web where directing people to some tech site explaining how to apply the hosts fix. I honestly only noticed a small change even though MX was officially gone. As time went on results became smaller and smaller but not by much in my opinion. It wasn't till late last year that I noticed a major drop. I can't find anything that I could have found in the past. If I'm looking for something popular then sure Ill find a decent amount of results but when I'm searching for a program or something....I have to use bittorrent or a G1, G2 network. If your calming that all that was fakes then how was I downloading files that I cant find now... They surly where not fakes although I wouldn't be surprised if where was some fake files in the mix.

Anyway I suppose theres nothing left for us to discuss. Most agree and some don't that theirs less files. Since I have some free time I'm gonna go try and get Shareaza to support opennap protocol and see if anything comes of it. If any progress ill post back.

well I made a post on Shareaza about the possibility of adding opennap protocol to their client. But I got a response saying "It is never going to happen. OpenNap does not have secure hashing." I wasn't to sure what that meant in terms of p2p hashing so I asked and got this answer.
"Secure hashing is when an entire file is hashed using a hashing algorithm preferably more secure than MD5. Programs such as KaZaA and WinMX only hash part of a file with weak algorithms so corrupted files spread rapidly and easiliy through the networks."

You can see my response in the thread here. Feel free to post in the thread http://forums.shareaza.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53708

I think your having the wool pulled over your eyes on the hashing issue, yes the hashing is weak but most user dont search by hash, in fact the majority of hash searches is done by the find new sources function and the fake file folks are not generating fake files with the hash your searching for on the fly because its still not possible in the small time they have when your request comes through.

I have read before on the shareaza forum regarding winmx and how they cant add it to the list of supported clients because of variious reasons, the real reason is they dont have the protocol and encryption information, its a fact hardly anyone on winmx is sued whereas those using the gnutella network and its clients always make the headlines, strange eh

Hi DeathfireD

Im reading some of your ideas, and some of them are not beyond my understanding just .. maybe outside my realm of what I do around here.. but Id like to see some of your site design ideas.. I would like to remind you tho, as many ppl seem to lump us at times.  Im not saying you are completely but in your posts I notice you reference WinMX World Site as WinMX and visa versa.. its important to me to mention we are not the same.

WinMX is a p2p network, and we are simply a help site.  .. Please dont take offense to me stating the obvious.. its just with your site ideas and some of the others it would be important to make that distinction.

My reply here goes to every poster who posted in this thread. First of all appearences are not always as they seem. YES there seems to be a decline in search results. Why? Because every user that switches to the winmxgroup patch eliminates the possability of 1000s of fake file l istings by Macrovision. If you would be patient and not wait for the opportunity to attack someone because you do not agree with them, THEN think about what you read instead of ignoring what you read, there would've been NO NEED for any of the insults, name calling, or finger pointing that occurred in this thread. It is disgraceful how this thread degraded so quickly into a shootout.

Now, results in searches do appear to be low. The reason for that is that opportunities for flooders have been removed so now you don't get so many fake results. So a decline in results is true.

A decline in users is NOT true because I have seen new room after new room pop in the channel listing. I remember days on MX when there was only like 1000 rooms showing in the list. Now I know of days when there are 25 to 2600 rooms in the list. So no, not a decline in users.

Rooms with only 1 person in them? How many of those "single user" rooms are new rooms and just haven't had time for drifters to come in and decide they like that room? If they have 1 person in them and they used to be populated with 50 or more I'd suggest the hosts of those rooms do some soul searching because something OTHER THAN MX ran those users from that room. Guess that kind of explains the 1 person rooms.

To those of you who just wish to rant, then rant. But when you rant, rant about what really pisses you off. Don't read posts and just think of a good rant to heat people up over. It's that kind of thing that causes a decline in helpful advice because if the people giving help and advice know you're going to attack them every time they offer a suggestion oviously they're going to just shut up and not give too much advice to anyone and in my opinion it is understandably so.

And 1 more thing. Mr. Bold letter guy. We can read the plain letters as well as the bold ones. Please stop.

Oh, and let me add. It takes only half the time and energy to make a program such as WinMX a bad program just because someone says it's a crap program. It take 3 times as much energy to show that a program is NOT a crap program just because you say it is NOT a crap program. So I challenge all of you who say you have your heart in WinMX to quit WAITING for MX to become a good program and start going out and PROVING it is the great program YOU say it is. If you KNOW it SHOW it and waiting aint doin, it's backin up, so let's move foward for a change.

Best Answer: There are less files and users, because before winmx crashed my room used to be filled with over 200-300 teens a day. Which are the idiots who share files they download not knowing they are doing so. (aka they don't use some crappy upload limiter like mxmonitor or anything like that, and don't set low queues) Only the users who know whats going on in winmx do that.

So yes, there are less users (the ones that actually provided at least half of the files on the network before it crashed.)

There is no question that there are less users than before the great cataclysmic crash... That part is true.

But people saying that lately the numbers are declining are fulla beans, because I have seen a LOT more users lately, and more growth in the winmx community, and even more development of new ideas.

Day after day I see more people that say "WOW! I didn't know winmx was still going! after the shut down, I thought it was over!"
So, MANY of the former users will be returning, because when they find out we are still here, there is a lot to miss about such an incredible community, and many people to reaquaint with that they haven't seen in a while.

I think something wonderful has happened with the great crash:
It prompted development of new connection methods
The network is cleaner today than it ever was
The network is no longer 'owned' and there is no one person to hold responsible for everything
The entire community has shown how resiliant we are to being attacked
Many people's true agendas and faces became apparent
Proof of our survivability has prompted a new sense of creativity in users
Out of necessity, a more complete understanding of the details of WinMX were discovered
We have created a black mark on the record of success of the **AA's
We are all prouder people for our unity in making this happen

There is a lot of credit to be given to KM for his brilliance. He CONTINUES to add his genius to the community and devote his time for the good of eveyone. There is also credit to be given to every member of the community that offered help, and resources, as well as those who offered an encouraging word when it looked like all was lost. And to those who continue to help with great ideas, and a positive outlook on the future of our community.

And I would urge everyone to read nook's post above again. I have to say, Nooky, that was well written and was a great reminder that people shouldn't get caught up on the 'rant wagon', and to look at the logic of what is really happening. Shows a lot of wisdom and needed to be said :)

We have reached a point where WinMX has been here so long that some have grown up on it! Gone from teenagers to adults. And many adults like myself, have grown quite a bit too, simply from the exposure to a good community. Sure there will always be some riffraff and trouble makers, but the vast majority of the community looks out for one another and I can personally say, I have learned and experienced much, and am better from the experience.

So, is WinMX going downhill as this topic suggests?

Absolutely not.

Best Regards, and BE GOOD!

Well I aint so sure about less users in the rooms and on winmx. I know many have quit it due to the things they had to do in order to connect reconnect and how dead chat is compared to how it used to be and what a hassle it is to go through files just to get one and it be rejected.

I  myself dont see many new users I see that same people room after room more then I ever did because so many get on a whim and decide *I am gonna host a room*(to bad there aint a rule book or how to on how to be a host)! Anyhow, I am fotunate I host a room that people come looking for I myself have been part of the room for 8 years and have hosted the last two of them. There were many times in the beginning I was ready to give up I wanted the room constantly moving but I am more relaxed and w/e happens ........happens! It has had plenty of hosts before me so its an old room.

When I am @ the pc I try and greet all entries in my room when I am about and one of my most common ?;s are tp the ones who will talk and just not come in and want to park and pm everyone *How long you been on winmx?* very rarely i get a newbie its been years and for some reason my years and their years on winmx never crossed. I promote chat everyone thinks file sharing is so big I really have never been that big on that end of winmx but give me a room full of people who can hold up a convo as well on their end and I am good to go! I remember when there was just a handful of rooms like very low few hundred and u would enter a room and there be a good 100 users so my advise is this too all them who sit in rooms less then 10 people forever why not find a good room and ask your regs to follow u if u host. It seems though some like the *power of being in charge*.

I am always trying to bring back old winmx users and start new ones like last night I started 3 new ones that never heard of winmx................Its amazing how I can bring that up in a convo when I am playing yahoo pool >.<. I think if everyone could bring just one person a week think of the increasing numbers then but unfortunately not everyone can be or is a chatterbox like some (myself included). And the last note I would love to have a room of 20 with erryone talking then 50+ and its dead for hours ..................

I agree with what scyre says WinMX is not going down hill people are slowly but surely making their way back to WinMX. I personally cant wait untill my Internet is sorted i will be back but i will be sharing more files hopefully 200gigs of music but i will never quit trying to make WinMX better. Dont get me wrong other people have done alot to save WinMX but what makes me mad is people just rant and rave about how WinMX is not as good as it was but how many people out of them who rant and rave are actually helping WinMX. Please be patient and WinMX will be better than ever. Give it time and users will see the truth and help more.

There are a lot of people that don't even use the chat function in winmx
and a lot of new users as well that don't even know it's there.I think
sharing files is a big deal.... if new users come to winmx and find there
is very little amount of files... i dont think they'd be staying very long.
Sure the chat is always fun but u have to remember there are a lot of
pure file sharers that could give a rats ass about chatting.Personally
i won't kick for 0 files but the bot will send a message asking why
you dont help support the community by sharing files. As for newbie
winmx users i've seen over 10 visit our room in the past 3 months and
a lot of them said they had used winmx for over a month now,not realising
there even was chat. Also anybody has the right to host a room...
I dont think its about control... sum people just like to play  :D
