Hi curiousminds....The next time you search for a movie,on the search window change your "Auto Find Sources" to 10 and also change your "Auto Enter Queue" to 100 . Post back and let us know if this helped or not.  :)

Are you sharing any files?  Many WinMX users use upload managers such as
mxmonitor and LeecHammer, and require other users to share a certain number
of files. If you don't meet their requirements these upload managers will
cancel you from their queue. You might have files in your library but it
may be a good idea to pop into a room and browse yourself to see if you
actually are in fact sharing any files. How many files are you sharing?

Are you sharing any movie/tv files yourself? Many users also require that you
have some similar files in which your trying to download. If your continuously
in their queue for movies and your only sharing mp3's,your less likely to
get a start from many of these users. You could stop into a movie room
and explain that your just starting out aquiring movies and i'm sure
some of them might start your download if you stay parked in their room.

Searches are set as .mp3 by default, are you changing your search query from
"MP3 Audio" to "Video (.avi .asf .mpg .mpeg)"?

Do the files turn red immediately or after some time has passed?
If the files turn red immediately can you click the + then right
click the users name and "Enter Remote Queue"?

Since your able to download mp3's successfully,it doesnt appear that this
is a technical problem, but maybe a question of what or what your not sharing.

Additionally how is your winmx patched? if you're using a hosts file patch rather than modified version of KM's dll.. you may be trying to download fake files.. which are flooded for the sole purpose of frustrating you....

No, I'm not sharing. Especially movie files since I'm new to this and just discovered about downloading tv/movies. Mp3' yes, I'm sharing what I download.  Yes, the files turn red after some time of being yellow stating waiting for incoming connection.

Take a look here curiousminds & all should become clear on how to use winmx and the chat function.
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/winmx_basics.html
It would be worthwhile to go into a movie room and see if someone would give you a start on a file to see if there are any connection problems or if its just people blocking or canceling you due to lack of files (not fair but happens)
If it is a connection problem i suggest firstly going to the site below and downloading the setup for existing installs and installing and giving it a go
 https://patch.winmxconex.com/
If this makes no difference check ports are open by going to the link below and find your modem/router on the list and click on it then go to winmx in the list and follow the instructions
http://portforward.com/routers.htm
also are you running a firewall and has winmx been allowed in it?  if not its possible some traffic is getting through and some blocked.
one more thing who is your isp? as a lot these days block/throttle traffic some/or all the time.
Post back and let us know how you get on please. :)

Ok, I'm going to try the chat rooms as well. I did forget to mention my particular internet hookup is a router. The regular kind you can buy at Circuit City.  My isp is Mediacom.  I've let winmx go thru my avg firewall, and spysweeper.  Not sure about the one that came with the computer though.  Also I got lost looking thru the list of ports and routers you sent. I have a Toshiba Laptop that I use, I don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Ok, my bad. I can't seem to download music either. Should've tried it instead of just assuming it.  So I can't download anything. I'm using the patch and had no trouble downloading when they showed me how in a chat room for movies. Now I find I can't download music either. Would it be better to be on a primary or secondary. With my cable/wireless connection and hope that'll help?  Thanks.

Okay curious,it sounds like a port problem,so for the time being could you set your winmx up following the instructions below.

Have your WinMX running and go to the Settings Tab (located at the top, right hand side of your screen)

Click on "Incoming TCP Connections" ... now click in the circle on bottom option "Unable to Accept Incoming TCP Connection"

Back to the menu on the left you see "In/Out UDP Packets" Click on that....Again click in the lower circle "Unable To Send or Receive UDP Datagrams on any Port"

Click close at the bottom of the settings box.... now restart WinMX and choose secondary connection.Try downloading and post back with your results. (give it some time to see if your able to upload as well)

This isn't the best setup but at least it will give us a clue if its your router causing the problem...If you'd like to learn how to open your ports correctly you'll have to provide us with your router brand name and model. There's many people here that would be more than willing to help you with this.

As for editing your posts i believe that option is unavailable at this time.

One final note, you mention that your running AVG Firewall...If your running Windows XP it has a firewall of its own and should be turned off, since your using 1 already.More than 1 firewall isn't recommended as they can conflict with one another.

Ok, I'm going to try the chat rooms as well.

Great idea, you can get some immediate help in a lot of rooms, find people who are sharing files you are after based on room name and type of files shared, and also get to talk to a lot of people who you will become friends with.

A little of topic, but try a few chat rooms.

Ok, the incoming tcp and the in/out udp works. I can download music now, but still no movies.  Also my xp firewall has been off this whole time.  It won't let me make a secondary connection with the setup of not being able to receive incoming tcp and in/out udp.  So what next?

Also to let you know I have a Linksys Router called Wireless N Home Router. Hope that helps. The primary connection didn't work either. It just put me in que and then I couldn't download music that way.  When I did the primary connection I had to undo the unable to receive on the tcp and udp like you said.  There were also considerably less search results with the primary connection.

I've also shut down my avg antivirus as well for a few minutes and that didn't seem to work either.

Curious can i ask you a few things..

I mostly want to verify some information if i can so that we can narrow this down a bit.

First can you tell me what it says on WinMX screen just under your version number in the title bar and just above the Networks, Library, Chat, and Search buttons there is a bar there, we call it the update bar and I'd like to know what (if anything yours says)

This will tell us for sure what patch your on, because it sounds like fake files could be an issue here.

Second can you open your control panel and make sure that the firewall icon there says its 'Disabled' if you are running XP that is.

now for one last thing here.

Open WinMX, then click on Settings button, now look for the Search on the left, click it to highlight it.. now on the right near the middle of the box you should see 'Default Download Paramters'  Under that click the Auto Find Sources button there and choose 10min, now click the next button called Auto Enter Que choose 100.

Once you have done this restart WinMX to kick start these settings and choose a new video file and tell me if this works to get in que at least.

Did what you said and no go. My firewall is off. I have winmx version 3.53 and mxpie v3.6. How do I tell if it's fake? Thanks.

Can i just add, i've seen sporadic cases recently (since last round of updates) where the XP firewall continues to block things & blocks new programs even when disabled, it's worth visiting the tutorials section & configuring it to allow winmx, as simply disabling it seems to no longer be a completely reliable way of allowing winmx

Where do I go to find the tutorial? I looked in the firewall itself and didn't seem to see it. Thanks.
