Hi Bigred

Okies here we go:

1. Do ip config the addy you are looking for it is the Default Gateway: 192.168.2.** (* is the ending numbers)

2. Post that into your browser and click enter

3. The default password for this is blank so just press enter

4. Once you are in your router go to advance settings

5. Click the nat link

6. You should see the new set up called vitual servers with all these lines

7. In using the default gateway addy 192.168.2.** (put that number in again) and tick tcp and type in 52300

8. You do the same for this in UDP expect use the UDP number 53200

9. Make sure you tick enter which save this.

10. Close winmx if you have it open and than restart it.

Post back if you are having any problems :D

Ok...I tried and still no results.  My Default Gateway addy is 192.268.2.1  I typed this in and saw the following after going to Nat-virtual servers:

Private IP         Private Port           Type              Public Port
1.   192.168.2.1         52300               TCP                    52300
2.   192.168.2.1         53200               UDP                    53200

I then hit the Apply button and it said "data saved"
Reopened WinMX and tried again and saw no results.  What am I missing?  Thanks.

Hi Bigred

Now open the ports in your firewalls and make sure they are allowed.

Please post back.

I just went into Windows Firewall and WinMX was checked in Exceptions so I don't think that's the problem.

hi there.

Big Red are you sure the IP 192.168.2.1 is the real IP that your computer is on or did you just copy that because the site says it s the default in the router?

i have a gut feeling this ip is wrong

I'm not that pathetic!  In MSDOS I type in ipconfig/all and my default gateway is 192.168.2.1
The regular IP addy is different and the subnet mask is different as well.  The DNS servers is also 192.168.2.1.  This is what I copied down.  Maybe there's something wrong based on what its giving me.  Thanks for any help.

No worries my friend....I was just making fun of myself!  I tried typing in the IP Addy that I wrote down from ipconfig/all.  It gave me that "internet explorer cannot display the web page" message so that'a not working either.  I'm sure this is probably something fairly easy to fix....I'm just missing something and I've been without WinMX for a few weeks now.  I appreciate all the help. Let me know if you need all four numbers from ipconfig/all in order to help me.  Thanks.

hi again big red

i understand that a few weeks no mx can be frustrating but don t give up, you are right stating that it might be something fairly simple that is not set right yet.

i still have a feeling the problem will be the router causing this but first you might want to try to remove the winmx exeption from the firewall (while winmx is switched off) ...after this is done you switch winmx on and the firewall should react and ask you if you want to allow it again..please do.
my guess is this will not help but it is worth a shot.

if this did not work you can also check what Tig asked you (dont do these two steps  in one go because  if the ports are opened for winmx in the firewall it will probably not ask program permission anymore on startup mx)
the ports can be added  using the "add port" button in windows firewall exeptions tab (i am assuming we are talking about the windows fwall), add both ports please

i hope this helped but i doubt it :/

Hi Bigred

I think that this tutorial should make things easier to config the firewal:

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp.html

Joshua203 is on the right track this might make things a little easier.

This is driving me nuts!  I did what Joshua suggested....nothing(which you guessed).  I did EXACTLY as Tig said for the ports and still no results.  Again, I connect to WinMX with no problem.  It's just not giving me results.  The ports are matched up with the firewal and WinMX.  Would deleting WinMX and downloading it all over again help?  I appreciate all the help!

Hi BigRed
I'm about to go through a list of things I'd like you to do, I believe that I know what your issue is and it is in the router, but I will go through this with you step by step. ( I believe that your using your 'router's IP' 192.168.2.1  in the rules, this is incorrect and where the problem lies).

OK so first thing I want you to do is forget all ips, and things that you had used before or wrote down.

Go to the Start > Run and type cmd
Then say OK
Now in the box type ipconfig
Then hit Enter

In the black box your going to look for the 'IP Address'
This will be similar to the Routers IP or Default Gateway but the last digits should be different.
Remember the Default Gateway is NOT the one we need.
It will look similar to the one below but maybe different on your PC.

Default Gateway .................. 192.168.2.1
IP Address .......................... 192.168.2.3

Write down the IP Address.
Close the black box.

Go to a web browswer and type in 192.168.2.1  (your default gateway) and click GO
Once you've logged into the router config pages, go to the 'Advanced Setup'
Click the NAT link near the left side of the page.
In the new menu, click Virtual Server.
In the rules you have for your WinMX TCP and UDP if the Private IP listed there is 192.168.2.1  Change this to the IP I asked you to write down earlier. (example would be 192.168.2.3, although yours maybe different this is JUST an example)

Quote
Private IP         Private Port           Type              Public Port
1.   192.168.2.3         52300               TCP                    52300
2.   192.168.2.3         53200               UDP                    53200

I've posted the info you posted days back with our 'example' ip used, remember I can't stress enough that yours may be different, and it will absolutely be different then the 192.168.2.1.

Once you've changed that IP to the correct IP Address for your computer, save the settings changes and you should be sorted.
Post back if your not clear on what I've asked you to do, or just let us know how this worked out.
 :)
