how fast is your computer? more programs is likely to make the situation worse, there are a few tweaks you can try, make sure in settings on the WinMX Peer Network sheet Allocated Bandwidth is set to the 7KB/out 10.5KB/s in setting & search thread duty cycle to 40% & on the Miscellaneous sheet WinMX Main Thread priority is at Normal(recommended)  it may be worth trying that one at "above normal" as an experiment (no higher) but you may find other things respond slowly if you do.  Also looking at the processes tab in taskmanager (right click taskbar it's on the context menu) then clicking heading on CPU column header to sort entries will identify anything posing major CPU load.

If the settings tweaks don't help & nothing is found using masses of CPU that shouldn't be in task manager, your best bet may be to change to a secondary connection.

btw, reducing the number of searches winmx handles (search thread duty cycle) will actually make it deal with less searches... so it not a good way to resolve an issue of it not handling many searches :-)

if your MX is not able to handle many searches then you may find it better to simply use secondary unless there is some need to use primary

using -user doesn't help at all, the only way to filter the fakes from searches is to use 3.0 (or above) of the winmxgroup patch - in which case you don't need to do anything special just search and it will do the filtering automatically

that's the winmx version not the patch version, if you see a splash screen when winmx starts up and it says Patch Operational in the top left then you have 3.0 (or 3.1), otherwise you don't so will get fakes

although i think the biggest clue is when you see thousands of results and have problems downloading them

Yesterday i was making a change in our router to use winmx primary and somehow it locked up. I couldn't access it. SO my laptop and my wifes were couldn't use. She was not happy with me.  She set it back to the default and doen't want me to mess with it anymore so now i have to use winmx secondary. Would you list the settings to use in  the wizard for me? Thanks. I have high speed internet (cox - now sudden link) cable.

Oh. Sometimes it shows and others it doesn't. I don't know why it disaapears sometimes. Right now the line is all white.

you might want to have a look at this thread then, technicaly it's still beta but hey worth a try... if your router supports it then it will try to forward the ports for you, no need to go and set it up yourself so your wife doesn't have an excuse to... yeh, that

of course it may not work (doesn't work with every router, just most) but hey if it does great if not nothing lost (plus the fast list might be useful if you're forced to use secondary)

if it doesn't work then just go in to settings and set both inbount TCP connections and in/out UDP to "unable to..." and then run in secondary (it won't let you use primary once you've set that)

I have 3.54 beta 4 but don't see an advanced filter in settings.

there is no PATCH version 3.54, you have WinMX 3.54, try patch version 3.1 on winmx

https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.1-3.54b4.exe  to get it, that should filter the fakes and may well forward the ports in your router as well

Hi Mman,
Those are fake files your seeing.. this tells me you dont have the latest patch installed yet with your WinMX.

Please do this, Download this file and save it to your Computer.
Shut down WinMX and double click this file, allow it to install on your PC.
It will restart WinMX for you and those annoying fakes should be gone from your searches

https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.1-3.54b4.exe  << CLICK HERE to download the correct file.

When this is done if you still have any problems please post back here

Hi me here. I have done the above and i get the same results. Example: I'm typing Rob Rock for artist and i get all results with either the words rob and or rock in them. Is there a way around this?

Try adding the title to the tracks or files you want for example

The Artist - The Track
or a word from the track in there too like

The Artist
~word from track

~ = include words in searches
- = exclude words from searches
