hello,

if lets say you set moni at 5 uploads and winmx to 1 total should be 6 (one start from que and 5 for trades and friends)

i hope i did  not mix this up cause its been a long time i messed with those settings but anyway it was something like that

Yes I have WinMX set to 3, MxMonitor set to 6. 3Q & 3Trade.

Not as farb as I know. Moni Limit # needs to Include WinMx's set Q's + Mxm's Q in Total. Or Maybe I'm too Tired as well. Anyways it seems to work  for me that way. The only way to bypass file limits by either prog. is to do a direct start from WinMX.  -  Haywire

Locked all Files In WinMX folder except ignore.dat & library.dat. (made them Read Only

If you did this befoe this is why you ultimately couldn't change the bandwidth throttle. Settings.dat is where all your settings in WinMX are stored. If you set it to read only then you block it from changing yourself. And since we're on the subject what is the purpose of doing that anyway if I can ask? Those files can still become corrupted or deletedso you really aren't protecting much by doing that.

My winmx program was working just fine.  Then all of a sudden it will connect and stay on long enought to start a download and searches and then just up and quits.  I reinstalled 3.54 and it is still doing it.  I even changed ports.  I am using vista home and haven't had this kind of problem since before the vista patch came out.  It doesn't just disconnect it totally closes down.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

mamatee this is not a port issue. If you will, with winmx closed go the winmx folder in C:/Program Files/Winmx and right click on winmx.exe and click properties. Once the properties window pops you should a checkbox beside where it says "Run as administrator". Put a checkmark in that box and then click on Apply and Ok. Then restart winmx and give it a test run. This may fix your problem. Please let us know. If this doesn't work there's several things we can do to get this fixed.

OK.  Spoke too soon.  It ran for a little while and I decided to do the administrator thing and now it is back to going off.  I did it because I wasn't getting any search or couldn't load chat.  Now It goes off as soon as it is loaded.  Helppppp.

hello mammatee,

the last problem you described is probably a port problem, if you have allready opened the right ports you may want to re-check that ... your machines ip might have changed if you did not make it static or the ports you use now could be set differently

best thing to do is visit www.portforward.com , pick your router then pick winmx and walk/re-walk those steps given

you can also try the simple portforwarder/simple static ip(build in)

the above is asuming that your winmx is not crashing anymore after you did what ñòóKýçrÕôK told you (administrator thingie)

Thank Joshua.  I have tried everythinggggggggggg! Changed ports  the administraor thing, uninstall  reinstall and nothing works.  I am using sprint broadband and have for over 2 years.  Never had any trouble.  It is a cellular plug in and not a router.
I just dont understand what happened to make it quit working to begin with.
This computer is Acer laptop.  I don't have this problem at home on my cable.  It works just fine.  I am pulling my hair out.

i don t have any knowledge about cellular plug in, but i am quite sure someone else here will

there s two things you can try that have nothing to do with the way you make internet connection:

1. you can try removing the winmx exception from windows firewall while winmx is switched off... after that you start winmx and the firewall should ask you if it is ok to let mx pass and make new exceptions for it (also check other blocking software you may be using), if it does not ask you can make them manually but it should ask by itself

2. check what  happens if you switch to a secondairy connection, does that take away the problem?

now if the above does not help i ld advice you to post details about your setup, just a little list to make clear what you use and how you connect (your system, sec or primairy, protection software installed, was there anything you installed or changed before you got this problem, did it work on this system before etc etc)
posting a little list like that might help people pin-point the problem easier

ooh and please post if your winmx still crashes or does it stay alive but just refuses searches and downloads?

As you might know bandwidth restrictions on cellular devices is limited. Since the nature of the technology is to transmit on low power to a tower several miles away the information is sent multiple times to ensure it is correct before the tower retransmits it. this doubles or even triples the actual amount of bandwidth used. Alot of providers block ports because of this.
You can Open your mx setting and add a 4 to the beginning of your port numbers (ie 46659)
and i would also complete joshua's second suggestion and switch to secondary.
Since as previously stated your connection type isnt exactly... stable. Thus it is not well suited for primary connections.

ok mammatee, now I need you to go into the winmx folder and right click on winmx.exe, with winmx not running, and click properties. When that comes up click the compatibility tab and put a check mark in the "Run this program in compatibilty mode for:" box. In Vista it should be set at Windows XP SP2 by default so leave that. If it's not at that then please change it do be so then click apply then click ok and then try and start your WinMX. Let us know how it goes please. And still keep it as run as administrator also. Good luck. * I wanted to add that if it doesn't work in Windows XP compativility to try Windows 98 compatibility also and see how that goes. Once again, good luck.

This topic is pretty old and was started for reports of WinMX crashing, your post seems to fit neither catagory Swaggie, however there are many fake rooms about atm run by some of the many drama queens that folks find obnoxious in their rooms and eject, this is just one facet of WinMx we all have to put up with I'm afraid.
