On the ME system you only need to deposit this into the C:\Windows  folder and restart Winmx, then wait.. .

Roby some directorys in XP are different depending on the version of XP your running.

For now I suggest you try this newest patch that installs completly differently

Follow the instructions and link here

To those having issues installing the patch.

I too was having trouble installing the patch the first time.  I would get the "Unable to write to file" message.  But, the problem was not the patch.  The problem was SPYBOT.  The hosts file was locked as protection against spyware.  Yes, I could name the file something else and install the patch but that leaves me open to spyware.  The solution I used was to go into the advance mode, uncheck the lock on the hosts file, run the patch, re-add the Spybot hosts file and then re-lock the file.  Everything works perfectly and I am still protected from spyware hacks to my hosts file.  Hope this helps.

be aware that after install the setup wizard will run and try to check your firewall/router settings to ensure incomming connections are set up properly - this WILL fail, so click manual configure and select if this has been set up or not, if in doubt assume it isn't set up properly :-)

Warning after installing patch.
« Reply #56 on: September 28, 2005, 02:09:23 pm »
After installing the patch and rebooting my computer, I received the following warning........."WARNING:  You still have the modified host file installed."  Do you wish to remove this? (This will reset it to the default file).  What do I do?  I've left the warning up on my desktop and it will stay there until i hear something.  Please e-mail me at ssloveall91@cebridge.net.  Thanks!

The Patches are not responsible for holding a connection, the primaries your attached to are..

if you loose your connetion and have trouble getting it back i suggest you use KMs latest fix listed on the front page
