If you have the abilty to connect winmx to primary and havent already done so please do so NOW, the network has way more secondaries trying to connect than Primarys to take them!

Get on Primary now!  Do your bit to help the network!!

Download the Patch from the front page and try it instead.

Maybe you will have better luck.. this is a .dll file not a hosts file.
It goes inside you winmx folder in program files.

Then flush the dns again and restart.. and wait.. should connect within  couple of seconds on primary...

i'd love to do primary, just got a dsl, but winmx will not allow me to connect as primary. says:

"you cannot make a primary connection to the winmx peer network for the following reasons:

-outgoing tcp connections use proxy server

i tried modifying my settings, outgoing>>no proxy server and now get:

could not open a tcp/ip port for litening. (winmx is now in passive firewalled mode.)

even though my firewall software is set to accept all traffic from winmx.

any ideas??

ps. i've used winmx for many, many years, and have loved it. happy to help in the hour of need. talk about corporate domination of the internet!!!

I'll be your primary..... 5MB cable up in Houston.

However, an automated msg on one of the OpenNap servers keeps telling me that I have port 6699 shown as open, but is unconnectable. I setup WinMX, and my hardware (Linksys)/software (ZoneAlarm) firewalls to allow TCP 6699 and UDP 6257. Can't understand the problem, but people keep timing out on me. Suggestions?

Humm.. sounds like you have covered  the usual suspects as far as port blocking..

Is anyone able to get through.. IF you do get  the occational uploader  to get through I suggest changing ports to high numbers.. such as TCP 61000 and UDP  58000 and try it..

If no one is getting in, make sure your XP firewall is off and double check your internal IP has not changed on the Linksys..

Let me know...

It's working... obviously my port trigger setup was wrong or broken, but peer net uploads are ok.

I wouldn't trust the SP2 internal firewall with my life. M$ has a history of fumbling when it comes to security.

Ok...Put in patch, have proper host file...reconfigured firewall..Winmx reading P=5  S=0  spm=10822....but I still can't search, up or download...and no chat rooms come up.... If I switch to secondary everything works......

XP, WinMx v3.53, Norton Firewall...Ports 6699 & 6257 (Tried other ports 80, 120 & 445, 1032 ...could not make connection)

haven't tried to open my room yet....waiting to get everything correct

any help appreciated...
Steve

Jersey it has to be a dsl modem or router issue I think..

Do you have one of these ?

AmishCake:
Start > Run  type  'cmd'  then..
In the dos box type  'ipconfig /flushdns'   then hit enter ..

OK...I've done the DNS flush and successfully connected as a Primary (I didn't before the crash only because of laziness).

I notice that people who are trying to download from me are timing out.  I'm running WinXP SP1, configured my router & firewall for ports 8888 and 9999 as instructed by D-Link.  I'm able to download at a pretty good rate, so just wondered if you had any more advice on allowing uploads.

I didn't restart after flushing the DNS; is that a requirement?

Thanks and glad to see WinMX back online.

I restarted WinMX and as soon as someone started downloading from me, I got a BSoD with this:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I didn't copy anything else from that screen but has anyone else run into this problem?

YAY Jersey.. glad to hear your upto normal now..

fabinc
Be sure the rules in the router are 2 seperate ones for the udp and tcp,

Also what firewall are you using.?

Amish

I found this forum where they handle this particular Error, here is the link.. you may have to register to post.  This is a computer issue and not a WinMX related problem ..
