did you install the hosts file into windows/system32/drivers/etc and did it ask to over write the existing file if so and its stillnot working try rebooting your computer then go to start/ run/ type cmd then hit the enter button, a black doss box willpop up typye ipconfig /flushdns and hit the enter button .........you should get a mesage saying that dns was cleared.........
restart winmx it should connect if it still doesnt paste this into the blach address bar above were all the rooms would normally list

I did the same as Nathan but to no avail left winmx on all day still trying to connect don't want to lose winmx Help us all please

im assuming sheri43 that your not pie patched and are in deed running the dll as promoted by winmxworld.............
and that you have downloaded and installed the tempory hosts file fix from here https://www.winmxworld.com/files/hosts_file.zip
and that you have extracted the file to windows/system32/drivers/etc and over written the existing hosts file, if so and its still not working then can you paste this room into the black bar at the top of were the rooms would normally list under winmx peer network
WinMXWorld.com Help_E3D7EFD5BABE if its not connecting then you must have a problem unrelated to the hosts file so your better to go to that room and get live help..............

I installed the new hosts file yesterday...was able to connect..also downlaoded the new patch and had no problems.

Now I cannot reconnect..all I get is the flashing yellow.

Did I screw something up that came back to mess me up when I tried to connect a little while ago?

Please check ya ports in winmx and router as they might have changed when you installed the new temp patch.

Also,
for ,e atleast, it does take a decent amount of time sometimes to connect. Leave it n for some time and see if the connec tion is established finally

It takes aboout 10-15 minutes to connect. Is that on my end or WnMX's end?

winmx is takeing 10- 15 minutes to connect ?
do you get a room list, searchs work upload downloads ?
let us know if any of the above is working...........

Yes to all of the above. Took a while to connect but all functions asked above do work. I haven't really used the chat rooms before but I did get a listing as well and have been able to download.

I'm only on a 56K dialup, tho. But even with it, it's never taken that long for me to connect before

thats what im concerned about hence all the questions.........
new dns listings can take awhile to filter thru ( dns is like a telephone book your computer uses to look up the addresses of other computers ).........under normal circumstances that sorts its self out pretty quickly.....
if your still experirnceing similar troubles over the next day or so your best to come to this room were someone will go thru your settings with you just to check everything WinMXWorld.com Help_E3D7EFD5BABE you can simiply paste that room name into the black bar just above were the rooms list................

Well, i have been unable to connect for nearly 2 days now, i'm just waiting for the next patch to be released.

I have tryed extracting the hosts file to /Windows/system32/Drivers/etc and it dident work.. I've tryed the atuo patch/fix a number of times, and it dident work. So now, i'm just waiting for another patch.

PS. No i dident have a firewall or antivirus/spyware running when i was doing any of that.

you had better pop into this room then WinMXWorld.com Help_E3D7EFD5BABE as what ever is wrong is more then a hosts file can fix...........
theres always one machine that proves trouble some, thousands of users can up date as they have with minimul problems.............

someone in that room can help you track down what the problem is..............

The fixed pacth worked fine until my router reset this morning - then nothing sat on connecting for hours

Eventually reinstalled original patched mx from https://www.winmxworld.com/files/install-3.0-multiver.exe
and voila its connecting again.
