WinMx Connection Solution : Welcome Back Filtering !
« on: July 03, 2007, 03:19:16 am »
Folks , I make a rather large apology to you all for the over extended delay in reaching a solution to the patch problem

I hope you forgive me and join with me in thanking the crew of folks who took part in ensuring your favourite solution was restored to its rightful place in your winmx folder.

Oh ..get your solution here

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html

Cheers to all those patient folks out there  :)

As I mentioned earlier the folks who took part in this second effort to restore matters to normal will be given a special pride of place once the list of names are gathered as it would be wrong to miss anyone out, I hope you join with me in thanking them all and KM himself for aiding the effort.

Thankyou Ghostship! Helping the WinMX community...

I'm sure people will forgive you, I'm sure they'd at least want to be connected to the WPN

Oh.. and...

I have mirrored this :)

http://220.240.168.62/happydude594

However please only use this as a backup, it is run on a home connection (not mine) which is low bandwidth

(If my ISP didn't put a limit on uploads I would have it running on my 1mbps up line :()

Hi,
It appears that this doesn't work with winmx 3.1. I just had a hell of a time installing it and nothing worked until I installed an old version of winmx. I just wanted to let ppl know that in case thet were still using 3.1.  btw ty to everyone at wmw for all the work they've done for us.

Still no go.
Reinstalled MX, checked firewall, port forwards, everything else.

I dunno it was working before I installed the new patch.

Would it be something to do with the DNS?

Could be mate..

Try this

1. go to command prompt
2.with WinMX off  Start > run > type in             cmd
3. click enter
4. then type in the DOS box      ipconfig /flushdns
5. then hit Enter key
6. restart WinMX

Still no go.

So far, I've...

1)  Installed the new patch
2)  Reinstalled MX
3)  Removed hosts file patch
4)  Rebooted system
5)  Checked firewalls
6)  Flushed DNS
...all to no avail.

My system runs XP Home. All was well until KM took the old caches offline and I uninstalled his patch.

:(

Which host file did you remove.   After applying new patch I have a host file with some modifications, not the original microsoft one.   The host file I have says:

# Do NOT alter the following entry, it is critical for proper operation
#
127.0.0.1   localhost
87.118.110.160   www.winmx.com

Reinstall WinMX, run the patch and go look at your host file.

thats just for winmx.com for the update bar i belive, tiny's  hosting it, hard to explain, say winmx.com really goes to say google.com (i know it doesnt) but with that in the hosts file it goes to the website tiny is hosting..

Please Note: current installer will overwrite custom hosts file entries.

can i ask what it puts in the hosts file before installing this? is it just the single line that mick shows or does it add more?

also... just to make sure.. will it eventually be fixed so that it doesnt overwrite custom hosts files?
