you will have to expand with a few details in order to help you mae.....what operating system are you using also what connection/isp  modem or router details & what version of winmx are you using
also what firewall & has winmx been allowed in it
the more detail you give the quicker we can get you up & running
just one more thing do you have the latest patch?

winmx & patch downloads

http://60.234.228.71:4949

if the current winmx you have is from b4 july 12 go to the above link  & d/load the multi installer and run

ps @ omega ... your updated d/load  site  >>>>  http://patches.mxomega.com     seems to be down for some reason

I have the exact same problem. Flashing yellow, no connection. Does this mean that the whole show is over (hopefully only temporarily) or is it just some kind of isolated incident?

Any WinMX superusers in here who have some good insider info?

It'll be a sad day indeed if WinMX is truly no more... :(

I've downloaded the patch. (3.0-3.54b4) WinMx connects very quickly but now Kaspersky is telling me that the patch is a Trojan.  What am I to believe?  It obviously is as it got into my restore files, I was not able to restore to an earlier date on my main computer and also all my music files within WinMx today were gone.  Very strange!

Kaspersky & a few other security progs do recognize it as a trojan but only because the patch changes a file within winmx to enable it to connect ..... i can assure you it is not a trojan and cant cause a problem with your restore as it doesn't go anywhere except into your winmx files to make the appropriate changes.. the restore is probably a fault within your o/s i run xp pro and get the same problem and i can assure you its not winmx related it seems to be an intermittant fault with xp as sometimes i can and sometimes cant restore to a earlier time sometimes trying different dates resolves the issue & sometimes threatening the pc with a big hammer also works   (perhaps if anyone reading this has found a cure for this they will share it with us)

As for your music files you might want to check the correct file path is selected you can do this by going to settings then click on the file transfers tab and go to the top right of this screen and check its pointing to the appropriate folder you selected for your d/loads to go to then click on close

Then click on library then open the add folder tab and select the folder you wish to share making sure you tick the appropriate file extensions you wish to share also
hope this sheads some light on your problems if not feel free to post back & someone will be sure to help out  :)

as security i personaly prefer sygate and avg as these are a lot more p2p friendly than most .

The place I got the patch was from this site  https://patch.winmxconex.com/ as listed in this forum.  As soon as I try to download it again, I get a loud warning of a trojan.  Is this a reputable site, that is ... is it really WinMx?

yes it is a reputable site & the one used by the majority of winmx users to connect without problems .... the warning you are getting is a false one the reason you are getting this msg is because you have installed it b4 and Kaspersky saw it falsley as a trojan & when you try to re download it  then once again it is recognising it as the same ..... Kaspersky is none to user friendly for p2p...... several security progs these days are anti p2p and show such warnings falsly but trust me tens of thousands if not a hell of a lot more are using this patch with no problems what so ever.

OK.  Strange though that the patch worked fine until today with no trojan warning.  I have WinMx running on two computers, the same thing happened to both that a) can't restore at any points in Win XP and b) that under the library Tab on WinMx everything I had shared there disappeared .... on both computers.  Kaspersky message says it's:

Infected: Trojan program Trojan.Win32.Agent.bpv   I:\system volume information\_restore{8d290bb5-e59c-462b-a0ee-e8949a1e4344}\rp85\a0013668.exe   289.6 KB

It bothers me that the same thing has occured to two computers.  Thought at first that a virus list update picked this up today for the first time but the fact that it's affected the restore section and has wiped out the library list makes me suspicious.  I'll be curious to see if anyone else has had this happen to them.  It's almost as if the patch had a preset date to do this but you tell me it's reputable so I believe you.

Well looking at that, it has nothing to do with WinMX or the patch. The one in your restore point is an "exe" of size 289.6 KB which is too small to be WinMX.  Also, the patch is a "dll" and not an "exe."

I've just gone back to the site which offers the patches as listed in a previous post.  The patch is listed as an .exe and not a .dll

Thats because they are installers, you can also downoad the dll on its own to place in your WinMX directory manually, should you wish:
