Greetings, don't know if this will help, but when I do a search I click on the user tab above the user column. As it groups the Japanese ones and the English for me to scan !!  :D  Later, Kricket

Absolutely NOTHING new? REALLY? The network is worse than I've ever seen it.  NOTHING is being done? Gotta redo everything and switch to open nap? REALLY.... what's going on?

Hey all, just in the last 24 hours when I do a search on winmx. Either video or mp3, for a certain artist this kindof stuff pops up and I don't get what I want. Is this spam, fake or what? How do I resolve this so I can go back to my original downloadings and searchings.   I'll type in the artist say John Schneider (for mp3) and a ton of symbols pop up next to a name and artist of a song not even related to my search!! Over a 1000 of these. Same goes for the video of whatever I'm searching for. Nothing's changed on my system. Used winmx fine the other day. This all started yesterday.  People have to no trouble connecting and downloading from me though. I just hate that I can't search for anything. What's going on here? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :suspious: :/

It is probably the same stuff we've been getting the last couple of months and periodically before that.  It comes and goes and is not evenly distributed, so not everyone gets it all the time.  My guess is that if you were to view it by full paths (option in the search results window), you will find all the files are on the C: drive of various machines.  Now, foreign languages will show up first and last because of how the names sort.

It seems someone with a deep knowledge of the inner workings (part of the reverse engineering team) has built or modified a client to intercept search requests and replace the search with C:\ (remember, the search works for the entire pathname, and in the case of the bad hits, C:\ is the common denominator).

The consensus is that a spurned developer and possibly their allies launched these attacks out of anger and/or ego over some decisions made.

A new client is being developed.  Until then, it seems the best thing to do is download some .wsx files and import them into the built-in OpenNap feature.  Then disconnect from the main network and connect to those networks.  If you are lucky, a screenful will connect.  Then go to search and try.

The garbage is gone. Good work.  Have they given up or are the trying another tactic? Queus are running very light. Usually I had 100 or more in queu. Now it's ghard to break 25.

new tactic

Looks like it. Searches are returning zero results. Normally have at least 25 - 100 in queu. Got 2. Looks like they shut the search down completely. I use Superman, Batman and Spiderman as my test searches. Since there's so many files on those. Got notghing. Not even the porno parodies.

Now down to 5 uploads out of 6 and zero in queu. What's going on?  Is open nap still working or is that screwed up too?

Thanks. Not getting any search results nor finding sources  now. What the heck are the nimrod attackers doing now?

This is what I hinted at a while back whjen I posted that the network was worse. I'd noticed the queus were funkty and if I had to shut down the computer and reboot it seemed to take longer for anyone to start downloading or for me to connect to them.

if you are using primary try a secondary connect... it'll most likely use a japanese user with a nice big pipe for the primary and you might get results....

if you dont want to try that do a search for 'porn' ... granted there will be stuff there that you wont want to touch but it should get results to verify your connect is working... if not something else is wrong..

what are they doing? well.. basically winmx is being flooded with non existent ips so its searching the wild blue yonder... and not finding much at all... chat is also still being flooded...

the wpn is acting like a DDoS botnet moreso than a p2p network....

It looks like whatever they're doing they can't sustain it. I hope this means it's doing harm on their end like crashing their systems.  Maybe they'll eventually just get tired of trying. Depends on how pissed off or insane they really are.

Almost forgot. If you  close WinMx and reopen it it seems to help. At least you can go from zero users in qeue to hasving some users in qeue. Browse those who show up in your qeue and look for files you want. seems when I find a file and click to download it the file usually starts right up.

too insane to stop... ...temper tantrums last a few days to a month... this has lasted a year... that would be considered psychotic...

development continues on the new client.
I understand that there are only a couple of major parts left to finish and things to tidy up.

Thanks. this is ridiculous. There's  zero incomplete files qeueing up for download. Three users in uploads, none in queue. SPM = 94 >.

I apprteciated all you guys are doing. Will the new cliaent message appear where the version name is?

Is it worth it to try openap until the new client is available?

we've always recommmended that users try opennap or browse other users directly in a rooms they find with similar interests.

I understand you can find actve servers on the gotnap site.
Alternatively there are wsx files in our archive. I know that there is one called Pauls public Tested. A member of the community releases a reasonably up to date wsx periodically.

I was still getting pretty good results off the network until the past couple of days. Had several times when the network came back up. Looks like they're refining things to kill qeuing too. I've had my qeue wiped out.  Go from like 24 to zero iin a short period and the files I was qued up gfor turn back to red.
