channel messages truncated

WCS w/ winMX 3.54b4 client

winmx limits the number of characters in the channel message edit bar.  However when it is at max capacity, wcs cuts about 60 characters from the channel display when sent.

this is because when WCS sends the text to the client it sends it including the username and other stuff (colour codes, < and > symbols, etc) but it still has the same length limitations as a normal message which would just have the text in it... i'm not entirely sure what the maximum winmx will allow is (it can take a little more than whatever the limit is but it will just make winmx unstable without being able to know about it) so to be on the safe side it is limited to just slightly less than the maximum

my quick test indicates winmx allows 400 characters to be displayed.  WCS seems to be limited to 350

Download a memory hungry program that you have to run all the time that will close anything to tray, or use cool little plugin that String made and download it, drop it in your folder that you keep WCS in and run it, then each time you minize WCS it goes to your tray.

This is what  is meant for a decent version of Wcs Hook.
I'm not sure that KM will be so happy , though.
PLEASE read the file .txt within it before to use.

Hi!
got a question about WCS
i have been hosting on WCS for awhile now, never had a problem with it... except lately, my connections are getting really jumpy, i cant seem to get a stable 10 like i normally did... (jumpy, ex: i will have 10 connections, then it will suddenly drop to to watever number, sometimes resulting in me dropping a dozen users :S )
if anyone has a possible solution to my problem, plz reply :)

Are you running winmx along side WCS ?

A possible cause of the problem you have suggested is a momentary handling of a mass of search results , this can cause you to drop primaries due to the mass of traffic overloading your connection.

It should only last for about 10 seconds and return to normal.
Reducing the allocated bandwidth in your winmx settings can stop many cases of this happening.

If this is not the case and your running WCS alone then please let us know.

You didnt say what type of connection you have to the net...Cable, Dsl, Dail-up??

And the Searches he was mentioning I believe are INCOMING search requests from the Network... by reducing the bandwidth allocation in the WinMX setting you reduce how much bandwidth is used each time the Network  asks for some of YOURS to help run the Network...

For Primary Usage:

Go to settings in your WinMX and select WinMX Peer Network...

There you will find midways in the Pop-up ... "allocated Bandwidth"
Select the lowest setting....

Although if your DSL has a slow UPload speed you might want to stick to using "Secondary" till you upgrade services.... Slow = 128kb/s

hi all, just like to say wcs is running great for me so far... just wondered if any future version could include a setting to tell  the host which chat client the person  on entering the room is using?
i think this would be a cool thing to go along a cool server :)
many thx all of u here.

That sounds like a simple enough thing for KM to do if he has a few spare moments, its used on a few servers already so its a feature that I,m sure he will think seriously about implementing.

(Crosses fingers   )
