You can install the patch with this program, it works perfectly: https://www.winmxunlimited.net/Peer-Cache-Patch-1.0.exe

This file works with versions 3.31 -3.54.beta4 so its just a matter of the ability to connect

The peer caches are busy and although they are only used for you to get hooked to another puter somewhere the entire network trying to connect at the same time is a strain

please see here for details of how to use this and what might be wrong...

https://forum.winmxworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=430

well, the peercaches are makeshift works, they don't actualize the addresses (yet?) but work with a fixed set of addresses, and the clients need a free slot to service the newcomers
that's why it might take some time till the connection is made

I know that I can still enter rooms, I've been in one since before the WPN went down, but it just feels unstable to me without the green connection, you know?  plus I would like to be able to load the WPN list

dial up cuts off every 4 hours :-(
« Reply #328 on: September 24, 2005, 07:06:55 pm »
Hi, I am on a dial -up (PeoplePC) that cuts off every 4 hours. I take care of that and dial right back in automatically with cidial.exe. But during the disconnect , of course , all my connections get dropped. It's wonderful that Mr. Drac, Josh, KM and everybody came up with this worrk-around. But for poor little people like me that use PeoplePC.....it's horrible trying to get back on the network. I'm  waiting 2 1/2 hours now to get back on.

What can I do?  Of course, keeping my place in line is impossible.

I doubt that rumor that WinMX is moving to the Cayman Islands because they just recently moved to Vanatau in the Pacific.

4 peeps who frequently disconnect
« Reply #331 on: September 24, 2005, 07:19:02 pm »
I just thought of something. it's easy for me to get the I.P. of any primary I am connected  to by watching my firewall. Is there a way to make WinMX reconnect to that I.P. rather than haveing to wait for hours to access the peer cache?

It is not a rumor that Frontcode is moving. they did it nearly 6 months ago.  Its completely unrelated to this..

No you cant bypass the peer cache system to get attached to a primary on the Network.. sorry

Glad you WinMX is working great, right now because of the new peer cache system the third party applications will need to be slightly re=written in order to work correctly.  The same ppl that do alot of this type of programing are the ones working to get WinMX back.. so be patient I am sure when things settle down a little they will move to getting those working for us as  well...

Per Vladd's request, to make the network stronger, please do not download or upload any files to anyone.  You may go to this address to verify this information............ http://www.vladd44.com/mxpeercaches.php    Thanks!!!!

I am glad this guest posted  this information...

I have been meaning to address this my self

This is completely and totally FALSE information.  The peer chaches dont do anything except help your computer find another computer, as soon as thats done your connected solely to that other computer and the Peer cache has done its work..

The peer cache is like the phone directory.. you go to it to get a phone number of the person you need to call.   It has nothing to do with the phone call itself.  Once you call your connected to the person you phoned not the phone directory.

This IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM has anything to do with the peer cache.  Sharing your files on WinMX has NO effect on the Peer Caches.
Uploading your files has NO effect on the Peer caches and can actually make the network stronger..

Further more I have also heard  people going around telling secondary connections to WinMX to disconnect.  This is complete STUPIDITY on the part of whoever started this.  Not only are you asking legitimate users to leave the network your allowing more space for the RIAA to attack our Primaries.  Secondary users help the networking process and promotes a STRONG network.

EVERY ONE ON A PRIMARY should however be using Peerguardian as mentioned on the HomePage.

Having a strong network is what we need right now true, asking half of it to disconnect is just plain stupid.

Please dont believe everything you see or hear these days.  Always get a second opinion

WinMX status and thoughts....
« Reply #338 on: September 24, 2005, 11:58:05 pm »
I fired up WinMX earlier today for some reason or another to discover that as we all know, well...bad things have happened. Throughout the day I've treated this discovery like a sore tooth. I'll forget abouuuuuuut it for short times but ineviatably end up poking at it with my tongue, knowing full well that it's gonna hurt. So during one of those little fact finding trips I find out that people have figured a fix. But not one to rush headlong into a trap I decide to read on to see if there are any "DON'T DO IT IT'S A RIAA TRAP" messages.... that get's old. Then I read further and read the fix isn't working anymore.... damnitdamnitdamnit.

So left at the crossroads of A) Giving up, B) Start looking into "just-in-case" options, or C) Saying "Screw it" and rolling the dice to see what happens.

Yep, I downloaded the hosts zip file extracted it, and told WinMX to do it's deal. Which pretty much brings things to where I now stand....

WinMX had been open and running for well over 30 minutes looking for a connection. I told MX to stop looking, but left it open. Unziped the host file into my C:\WINDOWS directory (There was no pre-exsisting host file to back up or overwrite in my application), brought WinMX back into focus told it to connect. This time I actually flinched in shock, like I expected the computer to explode when that green "connected"  light lit up. And it lit up with a quickness too.

I'd read that it was taking 10+ minutes to connect after unzipping, rebooting, and relaunching. Not for my. It connecteed literally in the blink of an eye.

SO HERE IT IS. SATURDAY EVENING, I AM CONNECTED AS A PRIMARY WITH 5 PRIMARY AND 12 SECONDARY CONNECTIONS. Connections are right where they should be... spm looks a little low, but that should change once I'm connected longer.

I have taken ALL of my files offline for two reasons, 1) My own security and peace of mind, and 2) I do not want my connection to be compromised by transfering and of my files slowing down my processor. My computer is actually running, erm...  192 hours of continous up time. To much processor activity and I will crash at this point.....

For the most part, I just wanted to post. Give a technical view of the situation from my location, and to testify that WinMX is not yet dead. It flatlined for a bit, but it seems the surgical team was able to get it back onto the EKG.

I would also like to point out that my username  on WinMX for the last year has been, y`all are gonna love this..... TheRIAATookMyBabyAway
for those of you that don't know, it is a play the title of a Ramones song named "The KKK Took My Baby Away", also covered by Marilyn Manson.

KKK.....RIAA....it fits so I ran with it ;)

Best of luck, They may take our lives.....But they'll never take our MMMMMUUUSSSICCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!! ViveLaWinMX and all that ruckus.

Just for the record I've been reading all the postings here for the last 3 days, and have followed all the instructions to the letter with absolutely no success whatsoever. I'm very happy to hear that mx is not as dead as some would have us believe, but my PC has been trying to connect to it for (at last count) approx. 36 hrs and not a flicker of a green light... although I do require sleep, so I can't be 100% on that.
I'm not asking for any help because I think all the questions I could ask have already been asked and answered, and I'm still no closer to a solution. I only post this to let people know that the new host thing does not appear to work for everyone.
So keep trying y'all... but don't hold your breath.
