WinMX Back Online Thanks to Mr Drac

Thanks very much for the patch and the info to apply it  

At first I couldn't get to work but after reading the post here I quickly fixed the problem and MX loggeg on in 2 seconds flat.

I  renamed the "hosts" file to "hosts.old" and then copied the patched "hosts" file into the same folder. The patch wouldn't work until I renamed the existing file  "hosts.old".  
"old.hosts"  did not work.
I hope this helps others that have the same problem I encountered!

I guess I could have just cut and pasted over the old file but i thought I should keep the old one as a backup as it was suggested in the install instructions.
Just thought I'd mention this if someone else does the same.

Installed just fine .... working ... got an entire album and
half of another one.....
"WinMX has encounterd a problem and must close..."
I think due to false data bases... 2 files came up with
over 500 sources ... that's when it bombed...
... and will NOT reconnect...

and I think I have some CRAP installed that should not be here!
some mokk - a and l and another one .. .exe files...
some OPTIMOZER crap from Winfixer that I didn't want...
... closing the board made it run any way ... or I just missed
the menue thing and clicked on the page of that popup and it
reacted the same as clicking OK ....

something just IS NOT RIGHT here... it doesn't boot up the same...
but it only seems to affect WinMX.

any thoughts.... other instances of same !???!

i reinstalled winmx............do i have to set the connection up manually .....i tried.....just selected the buttons that said i could accept and send packages etc.......how long does it take to connect

I tried your hosts file. I copied it in to my system32 folder. But no connections successful yet through winmx. I am using WinXP Pro Edition and in the system32 folder, there is no hosts file there....so where should I paste the file to actually in this case?

yesterday evening working nice this morning....nope.....normal?

I had the thing installed just like you said, ... working fine... got a
full album and part of another one... then it bombed/crashed....

Either we are victums of Smart Bots, Your Servers Went down or
your limiting connections to 3 or so....

If answer 3 is correct ... then I should get another two shots at it cause
it was YOUR probram that bombed .... probably due to those false data
bases...  The second time it bombed I saw why...

I was searching for sources on the Eminem album "Encore". The
popular ones .. track 2 and another one .. found over 8oo or so
sorces and that's when it bombed ... and I've tried everything
I can think of ... and it will NOT CONNECT AGAIN...

... but it will, seemingly, connect secondary connoctions THROUGH me
while not allowing ME to connect with Primary or Secondary....

I was only gonna finnish off 3 albums and let the thing run for a week
or so ...  bummer...

I hope it's not the BOT thing and I'm being used to blast ya with packets
or something...
