its a good patch just wounder if its safe? or is someone selling us out to save there own skin? the patch takes about 10 mun. to work why does it report us to someone thats why it takes 10 min. just dont know who to trust. sorry for doubt just scared .. i know you all understand

To you and anyone else worried about the safety/sincerety of this patch:

It will take some time to connect at first. There is no reason for alarm. This is due to the fact that there are such a limited number of stable, patched clients out there, and the load on both these clients and the new server are significant.

If you're worried about the contents of the patch, open it up in notepad and read it. It is not a large file, and reading both it and the original file will quickly dispel your fears.

What WinMX needs most right now are patched clients and primary users to support the network. If able, please use a blocker to prevent RIAA-paid file flooders from connecting to you. The time to worry about downloads and sharing files will come after the network is more capable of sustaining itself.

*Most importantly, this is the *ONLY* sincere patch. Anyone else offering another way to connect to WinMX cannot be trusted.

ANYONE asking for money, personal information, email addresses, etc... in exchange for a way of connecting is a fake. DO NOT give out information or money in exchange for WinMX services. There are MANY sites springing up to take advantage of the situation and scam you out of money, or worse.

for an esier and quicker way to do this just use the program found on here. Once openended just click the button that has your os on it and it will automaticly do it for you.

to user who said 'now has lmhosts.sam that wasn't there before .... YES it was !
i couldn't find my host file to replace so searched for it ........ there were 2 host files
host.sam and lmhost.sam
those were there to start off with ....... at least in win98

Yup to your reply, I'm running both Win2000 AND Win XP.
And yes, Win98 & Win98SE are not supported anymore....hence legals concerning the 'new operating versions' that use the exact same BASE code at from the first.....just look at MS Office 98...etc LOL

Here how it goes....
If you use WinMx then tis DOWN - Does NOT work in the way it was programmed to work.
Then, just like that old 'Napster' program, you've just got to wait a while for the next P2P to get out.
As far as I can see the 'current WinMx' DOES NOT operater as it is suppose to do !
Hence, anything about fixing IP addresses (either static or DNS etc) are dodgie......until a version is released that addresses this CURRENT problem.
Otherwise....your ALL making PRIMARY connections which means a 'solid' IP address and we do NOT want that do we ?
I can say more but I'll leave it at this.....I'm sure 'others' will be wanting you all to set 'Primary Connections' and the like etc.
NEVER! drop your FireWall....if you have one.
