WinMx on fire...
« Reply #222 on: September 23, 2005, 09:53:03 pm »
Right, tis I, back to annoy you all once again.
I checked the 'new' hosts file and yup tis all 100% perfect, spacing and all.
Thing is, I now have a file called LMHOSTS.SAM in that folder and it wasn't there before.
I've checked it and pasted in the new data (to be sure) and tried my WinMx......nearly 10 minutes now.......waiting another 5......then start to pray it won't crash out in a firey blaze again.

Hey, my OLD Hosts file didn't have ANY IP addresses listed in it at all, except for the standard 127.1.1.1

I guess I did it right. Everything is working, i'm online it's green, searching and even downloading at this very moment. It only took about 5 min. to connect. I just want to give a great big THANK YOU to all who worked and brought WinMx back to life. Thank you so much, you've made a lot of people very happy. And thank you WinMX World for a secure place to go to keep informed and vent our frustrations. I Love ya'll.

Not many ppls did .. my best advice for ppl is to continue to exit winmx and retry .. its worth a shot

And Please People if you are capable of a primary connection that helps the network more then anything .. so be sure to try that first ...

Thanks

Ah I give up, I'm not going to make a 'Primary Connection' as I'm behind a FireWall and that's where I want to stay.
'Secondary Connection' doesn't connect (without crashing WinMx).
I don't understand why I had to replace my original HOSTS file as it was blank inside it anyway.
As Arney says "I'll Be Bauk" when the new version comes out and this is all sorted !
Can't keep a good thing down to long !

Tis I....again....I just had a little golden bulb pop up over my head and when I spotted it I remembered that I had a few of those when I was in college.....years ago now....thank God.
Ahem!
Sometimes your PC will not check the HOSTS file locally (hence, if you can't find one there), it's checks the HOSTS file on your ISP DNS server.
So, how about installing something like "AnalogX FastCache" and you can BYPASS the search to your ISP DNS server altogether !!!!
Now THAT would solve a LOT of these probs don't ya think ??

A little help please  :D

I have a 'beta test message', is this correct?

Also, when going through the set up wizard again. should i choose to use a proxy server or not? Or does this make no difference?

 Thanks for any advice.
