IceDragon 000  not sure if this will help anyone but when doing a search use the bottom portion of where you enter the user and or file it seems to reduce the crappy files you get for example i did a search for vidoes useing the BBC as the search function got 2500 results entering the same BBC in the bottom line got 150 you mite need to orefine how that works

IceDragon 000  if it helps sweet if not oh well

from the help room earlier

gave it a shot... doesnt work for me.... same as typing in the top box... (from a technical standpoint it should be anyway)

I tried the OpenNap option last night and the searches are still being corrupted in exactly the same way - the search criteria is being ignored.

quite logical ...if you are still connected to the WPN the searches will still be affected by it... in short ..disconnect from the wpn before doing a search :)

PS.. but if you're going to disconnect from the WPN anyway it may be better to use another/better opennap app ;)

IMHO this would be the only way at the moment to get a correct search result.
Maybe searching for similar files after adding a few of those results in your download window will do the trick to get a normal result if you reconnect again to the WPN (but I did not go that far to see if that's true.. because WinMX seems to eat more upload bandwidth if I stay connected too long recently)

Thats what I thought too stripes, but Ice and another user reported that it seemed to work.

Is your computer facing west? maybe that 's it.

could be a primary vs secondary connect issue... have you tested it?

@joshua and others connecting to opennap and winmx at the same time.... when in search theres a button that says 'all available networks' click that and select one of the nap servers you are connected to and run a search... will search only that server and return clean results.... same can be done in reverse... searching only the wpn for example...

The easiest way to fix the invalid search results showing up would be to implement client side filtering via a patch update.

The patch would take note of what is being searched for (the search string), and the file type you are looking for. And before passing on search results to where they are displayed, check to make sure the search results fits what you were originally looking for. The patch would need to make note of what search string and file type was sent out with which search ID.

that would cut out the overhead of the planned network based 'verification'...

Your becoming unwelcome in your attitude Stripes, its hardly fair to suggest I,m the villain here when your the guy telling ppl how to bypass anti flooder blocklists and suggesting winmx users move to torrents etc, you really are confused as to your priorities, to suggest I am is a bit of an outlandish leap.

I know what the network problems are, how they are caused and WMW have a list of potential solutions and are vigorously working on those, theres no point asking ppl to go for an update when a boasting attacker will simply switch to one of the other attack methods I know still to exist and are simply waiting in the wings to use, if we followed the one fix at a time update policy we lose the users confidence in what we deliver, rumours will circulate about the "broken fixes" and folks will say "they don't know what they are doing if they cant get this right" and rumours as you know are hard to stop, the truth is always the first casualty in any war,  whilst you may think your being helpful truthfully your not, please have some trust and faith that's all that being asked of you, if a patch with all the fixes is not deliverable you will of course be told along with the rest of the users but while my time is spent aiding the construction of such a beast I ask you to slow down with comments that cause dissention and community dividing drama, as having to put matters right from our point of view is in fact wasting time I don't have or care to waste.

I have always seen a better side to you and you have been insightful in providing useful data to base some of our future plans on so I ask you as a winmxer to put aside the unworthy comments you just posted and stand firm with others against the common enemy in this time of emergency, making comments regarding myself is like kicking yourself in the shins as I,m only here till the emergency is resolved, with the wmw staff  being abused by attackers I provide a valuable line of defence and a break for them, otherwise they too would be involved in these time wasting efforts, while I am here they are doing what they do also for the good of the community so not liking me is not really something I care about, you know why I'm here and what I,m doing, now how about you try looking at things in a mirror before punting unhelpful words into the stream of our community's consciousness, good ppl need not resort to negative behavior especially when they know there is nothing to be gained by doing so.

actually ive got one upload to someone left and im hanging it up myself.... your promised patch i havent even seen an alpha of... so what in the world is there to have 'faith' in... you're gonna have to give me a little more than your 'word' that you can 'walk on water'....

as far as winmx goes... search hasnt worked since roughly may 8 chat hasnt worked worth a flip for a while and there are much more efficient means of getting files....

and yes thanks i know whats going on with the attacks.... search hijacks... rapid fire room list refresh requests... oversized packets... malformed packets...

its been interesting.... but im sticking a fork in this one and calling it done... i dont care to be part of this anymore...

It is upsetting that winmx has come to this.  I registered only to offer my encouragement.  Please dont give up and let the communities die such a death.  The legacy of winmx deserves to go down fighting.

I will remain sharing as long as it is possible to.

I agree. I got a lot of stuff of Winmx I couldn't get anywhere else over the years.  I'll keep trying to share when I can.  As long as the so called attackers aren't going to steal from me like a month ago or so when it all started.  I'm just sorry this topic had turned out to be an argumentative debate.   I just meant to alert the Winmx officials so they could get started on trying to take care of the issue at hand.     :)

Debate is good as long as its freindly and productive, fights never so, we all know theres a lot of stress and tension in the air and so sometimes its best to bite our tongues, I know many of you have helpfuly done this and my thanks go out to you for this kindness, the WinMX community will prevail and we will stay united against these attackers.

Delay is our biggest enemy.

I note that one time-waster who said he would stick a fork in it and call it done is still busy on other threads, non-constructive, unhelpful criticism, wasting time

I do wish that if input is warranted, it can be positive

I have been with MX for some years now and will continue to use it while there is at least one other person on MX. I think it is the best P2P there is.
Talking about making it into a torrent style P2P will ruin it. I have used torrents and find them to be very disappointing because you can't preview the file before it finishes downloading. For example ... some years back I was looking for a copy of "Sleeping Beauty" for the daughter of a friend who is not on the net ... Started to download a copy on MX ... got about 10% of the file and then opened it to make sure that it was in English ... what did I find to my horror ... CHILD PORN ... deleted the file immediately ... If the same file was listed on a torrent P2P I would have had to wait until the entire file was on my computer until I could view it and thereby possibly being charged with distributing child porn,
PLEASE stop this talk of making MX into a torrent P2P.
I find the current search results annoying but not to the extent that I am about to stop using MX ... it just means that I have to spend a little extra time looking through the results for the file I want. From my perspective it appears that the search results return every file that contains a letter within the word the search is done on .. i.e. ... if I did a search on "HOP" I would get every file that contains a "H", every file that contains an "O", and every file that contains a "P".
I also feel that IF MX were to close or become a torrent P2P then those who caused this attack to happen will have won and I for one do not like to think that a terrorist will ever win.

AND LETS FACE IT PEOPLE ... WHOEVER IT WAS THAT INITIATED THIS ATTACK IS NOTHING MORE THAN A TERRORIST!!!

Anyway ... that's what I think.

LONG LIVE MX

However, VLC media player will play pretty much anything you throw at it video wise so I would give that a try as well. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I have VLC and I use it ... you guys are missing the point of what I'm saying ...

THE WINMX COMMUNITY HAS BEEN ATTACKED AND WE CANNOT ALLOW THE ATTACKERS TO WIN. WE CANNOT ALLOW WINMX TO DIE.
