I don´t mind sharing everything I have. I love music and loads of it. I tend to look for really hard to find stuff. I used to actually own a lot of if years ago but my record collection got robbed during a move and it devastated me, so I try like mad to get as much back as I can.

Hi,
This is probably way off topic - it's like you're speaking a whole other language heehee - but I am a newbie urgently looking for help.

I've only been a user/member here for a short time and still don't understand more than doing a search and clicking to download. When I installed WinMX, I accepted all the defaults and said yes to sharing my files (though at that point I had none to share). I now have some files to share, and I assumed I was sharing with other members. I had one message from a guy looking to chat to women a while ago, which I deleted without answering (is this ignoring the fellow user?) and have had no messages from anyone since that.

Today when I came to my computer, which I leave on most of the time unattended, there was a message from a gent in the UK saying that I had ignored warnings and as I do not share etc. he will ignore me and so on. Now, if I'm not sharing, I am truly sorry for this unintentional rudeness. I've tried replying to his message - of which I think there was one as message and one as chat - several times, but he is either away or is ignoring me. The messages will not send to him and the chat thing did appear on screen but I don't know if he's seen it or not. I have apologised to him, as I do to anyone else it appears I've ignored, but truly am untutored in this program. I came across it by accident a while back and thought I'd give it a whirl. But, without intent, have apparently upset someone on the other side of the world to me.

My question to anyone who is prepared to help a newbie become more savvy is this: If under Settings/File Transfers/Queuing it says 'Maximum Total Uploads -3' and all that other jazz that you're all familiar with, no doubt, is there some other setting that I need to fix to ensure I'm sharing? Is it possible that this person has me confused with someone else, or have I been unintentionally rude to other users?

I really would like to fix whatever is causing this issue and share what little I have with others, but need help to do it. As I said, I accepted the Install defaults, other than saying yes to sharing my files...

Thanks for taking the time to read this - I hope someone out there will help me out.

Kind regards,
Caro

I believe it might be if you have either less files, or that have not put your folders in which you have your files in the library.
Go to the library tab and click on the "add folder "button on the top. Choos ethe folders where you have the files and say ok
Do not use the scan for media button. never use that.
deleting a message is not equal to ignoring. Click on "whois" in the message and then click the ignore button that...

Cheers :P

Thank you SamSeeSam and Max! I have followed your instructions and gone to Library/Add files and hopefully that fixes the problem. And will stop the vile messages from Leeds-UK.

He's just sent me yet another vile message calling me a leecher and so on. Definitely a sign that his ignoring me is not accidental, I would say. Yep, definitely distressing to have someone abusing me over and over for what was an unintentional issue. Maybe now the situation is resolved he will leave me in peace, otherwise I'll have to follow your instructions on how to ignore him so his messages don't come through. Leaves a bad flavour in the day to be abused over and over.

Heartfelt gratitude to all who have been patient with my ignorance. Hopeully no more problems now that the files are where they should be.

Kind regards,
Caro

Usually most people require you to have atlest 50 (100 at max) files. Once you have gone past that number, then you'll face no more rude messages.

Hi Caro,
glad our info helped you, sorry to hear about that unfortunate user, there are three points though,

1, look out for people that will upload off you , but are showing  0 of 0 available in a whois, these are leeches that have no intention of sharing,

2, if you go in some rooms, there are a few that will kick you for not sharing files, or not sharing enough files, (the amount they see fit)

3, some rooms, mainly movies rooms will only let you download off them when you go into their room,

apart from that, on the whole its a friendly place with lots of rooms, mostly they are ok.

I am just starting up w/ WinMX, and i have a couple of questions on the topic of dl/ul:
1) Why do i always get 2 ul of the same file from the same user at the same time?
2) Is there a way for me to play incomplete mpg dl?

Here´s a new one..I have my auto responder on because I´m getting ready to go out and someone messages me to trade. Obviously I wasn´t at the computer to respond so they sent me nasty message back that since I´m not at the computer to start them then they wouldn´t  UL my file for me. Jeez. It´s not my fault if I have a longer queue some days than others!

Hi,
I'm just wondering if it's fairly simple to run 2 instances of winmx and mxmoni on the same PC? I wanted to have different settings for mp3s and movies as I don't mind how many mp3s someone wants to download but queuing dozens of movies is a bit much. I used to use the autostart for mp3s but stoppped that after waking up one morning to find some git had downloaded 300-odd mp3s already and queued hundreds more (and wasn't even sharing what they'd got from me!!)
Is it as simple as installing it twice in different locations? If so, does it have any detrimental effect on my speed?

Thanks in advance
Ninj

One more thing - I've been trying to dfownload a file for months but noticed that the only user who seems to have it has something seriously weird going on. Every time I get down low in their queue, it goes back up to 100. I tried repeatedly retrying it and noticed the queue goes down enormously fast but never allows the download to start. Is this a technical problem or is it just someone being selfish?

Hi Ninjamynci,
Welcome to the site,
now your 1st question, yes there is 1 program i know of that lets you run more than 1 WinMX off the same pc at the same time, its called PlusMX, it will let you run multiple WinMX3.53's and is Available Here

your 2nd question, well it can be someone being selfish, or more often a fake file, if it shows in the search they have slots free (ie 10 out of 10 available) yet you are in a que then thats a fake file setup, the other way is the 0-0 hack (0 of 0 available) and will let people que up all day without letting anyone upload or its someone that will cancel everyone in the queue (hence you advance up the queue but never get to connecting) then he goes offline or resets connection.

i hope this helps.

The queue goes down fast as it happens to everyone else hooking on to that source as it is happening to you. That chap is using the 0 of 0 upload hack, as max had mentioned...
As for the two winmx's max has posted the link, I would add that the bandwidth would then be split between the two winmxs. If you like to stay on primary, run one winmx on primary and run the otherone on secondary
Allot bandwidth to each one so that neither overuses bandwidth

Cheers :P

I'm new to MINMX as well and I'm trying to establish a library of files to share, but when I get to the front of the Q
it turs red and I end up with nothing.  I have a primary connection, my ports are all open and the firewall is bypassed.
is there something I'm missing, or is it simply that I have no files in my library.  Thanks very much.

hi doc holiday

indeed it sounds like you get canceled for not sharing

few things you can do about it:
-go in chatrooms(the nice ones) and explain that you are new and trying to start a share
-send very nice private messages asking for help to build a share

easiest way:
rip/copy some cd's from your collection, save them to a folder and share those files

you are welcome to get intomy room and i ll helpyou but that would have to wait till monday when i ll be back, sure lots of others are willing to help  you get started before monday but  if not read below for the chatroom

This thread has gotten a lot of hits since I started it 6 months ago. I just want to know whether I can stop the most egregious breach of etiquette occuring: When the same user downloads the same file from multiple servers simultaneously. I caught one guy downloading FOUR copies of an 800Mb AVI file today, excluding everyone else for 12+ hours! I cancelled him, and put him on my MXMoni Ignore list for life!  The other pet peeve is seeing an obscure file in the queue multiple times, but with different users, servers, connections, files shared, etc. It's just too much coincidence, but I don't want to cancel a legitimate request. Are there no Super-Heros left to modify MXMonitor to catch these Evil-Doers? :x

Well there is no straight way to do it...
Pm the person and tell him to stop. Ignore him on all but one server. Works for me :P
include in the message that opennap does not support multi sourcing

Cheers :P

I'm fairly new here as well and I received a rude message from somebody whose ID I won't mention. It consisted of "kiss my ass" and then when I messaged him back asking what his problem was, I found that he had ignored me. Like I said, i'm new here...didn't know after reading this that i am a "leech" (which was purely unintentional) but still to have this directed at me...a simple "can you add fles?" would have sufficed.

Hi SDL365,

Welcome to the site.  Your example is exactly what i find most often with folks that are not sharing.. they simply dont know.  Im glad you posted here as a reminder to be kinder to our fellow file sharers and future sharers.. if you need anything SDL let us know.. we're always glad to have new users..

Sorry about your experience, I hope you'll stick around long enough to find out that most folks are not so 'hostile'.. lol
