why? its fruitless. the amount of bandwidth and memory to hold the cache from millions of users is not a easy task.

think about that

not one home user could support the peering cache -- it would take a crap load of memory ntm really slow there home computer to a halt.

For Cyber:

Yes, in Windows 98 the Hosts file is located in c:\Windows. Move or copy your file there and make the changes I noted above.

I think the \system32\drivers stuff is for Xp or 2000, I don't know.

that isn't how it works

the cache just stores the last handful users that asked for an address to connect ot the network

the data exchange any new user does isn't all that demanding either.

and btw, an IP is just a 32 bit number = 4 bytes

1 million IPs would come down to 4 megs, compare that with your shared files

Cyber - ITS OVER:

Do you work for the RIAA?

The original server that is listed in the zip file is down, but another one is up. You should read some of the previous posts.

« Reply #115 on: September 23, 2005, 06:53:42 pm »
I have followed instructions but still no primary. Of all the people I know only a handful made it. Is it possible the impossibility to get primary is due to the overload created by too many people trying at once?
I have XP Pro as OS, using winmx 3.31 with BendMx, RCMS and Ignition. I tried installing 3.53 and 3.54 but results did not change.
Can you help somehow. I feel like a refugee without my winmx. :-(

Thanks,

i wish the bad mouthers would just shut up ....... if they're not interested and want winmx to die they should just leave the forum if they're bored with the issue
some people actually want to know and help and their stinking comments get in the way

i doubt it's all that demanding

the exchange between cache and client would be about 1 k

once the network connection is established there wouldn't be any further traffic (secondories might go back to it when loosing their host, but how often is that?)
