Norton 2005 has Worm protection built in, basically a firewall, you do have to go to options > worm protection > control programs and allow WinMX specifically there..

If this is already allowed then could you give me more info on your set up.

Like what Windows do you use?
What other firewalls?
Router or DSL modem installed?
Version of WinMX and are you primary or secondary?

thanks..

I tried & trying right now again to be a primary connection but i keep losing my primary & secondary connections, 1st i lose all my primaries  then the secondaries. All my d/ls & u/ls go to 0.00 until they get disconnected, my internet connection stops sending & receiving traffic for a couple secs-mins, it starts again MX tries to reconnect as a primary, connects and i'll get up to 4-9 primaries connected to me then i start losing them 1 by 1.I also fall out of chatrooms i'm in too when this happens.
Also when i'm connected as a secondary I also get disconnected from MX & fall out of rooms, my d/ls u/ls stop my ISP connection stops sending & receiving traffic.
I'm using MS ME , PG2 with the WMW block & allow list , sygate PFW.

Your not testing me at all, I would bet, cant be sure with out the name and model of your modem but its possible you would have to configure the ports in that to allow a full functioning Primary.

Running secondary with no ports should work great and I personally would leave it at that for now, although mapping ports in the modem isnt hard if its one that requires that.. we can help you either way.

Just holla if you decide to do that...

Okay Tyke123,

First stop is to read through this page, this is going to tell you how to find the exact ports that your WinMX is using now.  Keep in mind however, any ports will work and non default ports are not a bad idea like 16699 and 16257 for an example.

This will also tell you how to find the internal IP address of your machine. Once you have this you can then move onto the Portforward.com page and find your specific router/DSL modem to get a step by step walk through for your brand.

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

If along the way you have any questions on this feel free to post them here or stop by our room on WinMX for help

Ok here is my basic spew about the ports.

If you have a blocked port in a router, dsl modem, firewall, antivirus or WinMX you will have problems with uploads and room lists while using primary on MX.

Now its not usually difficult to set the ports in each of these, but as you might imagine the having a few places like that can lead way to error easily enough.

So the first step is to make sure that your router is set correctly, this means to follow the guide on the link above and get your internal IP, and WinMX ports following that guide.

Next is to set the rules for your router
There should be two rules that will look similar to this

WinMX 6699 to 6699 TCP 192.168.0.101 (< That is internal ip)  Enable
WinMX 6257 to 6257 UDP 192.168.0.101  Enable

Once these are both set then click apply.
*Remember setting a port range 6257 to 6699 WILL NOT WORK
*Setting a port protocol to BOTH will also NOT work.

Now move on to the Firewalls
For XP, Sygate, and Black Ice firewalls the best explanations are here:

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewall.html

If you have a firewall not listed on that page a great site is this one:

http://firewalling.com/routers.htm

If you have Norton 2005 installed you will need to allow WinMX in the Worm Protection.

Options > Internet Worm Protection > Control Programs >  Add WinMX to the allow list there.

Now that all of those are set be sure once again that your ports match what is set in WinMX by going to WinMX > Settings > Internet Connections > Incoming TCP ... port  & IN/OUT UDP ... port.

Now that all of that is configured reboot the machine and attempt your primary connection.  IF you have P=7 and S= 10 or a number then you have done this correctly.
IF there is not a number at S=, go back through the steps listed above to verify the information.  Its easy to get a number transposed such as 6527 will not work if things are set for 6257... makes for frustrations...lol

OK if you still have problems you can post them here or go to our room on the WinMX Network at

I'm a primary, but if I can use IE, Mess I cannot use winMX
« Reply #70 on: November 07, 2005, 05:06:49 am »
I have a sort of a port conflict or firewall problem.  When my PC let my winMX access a port, I can be a primary as I set things up to send/receive TCP/ UDP , but my IE,Firefox, messenger, and other programs I use to trade, even broadbad speed test, FTP, or programs looking for a WEB Cache in my ISP will not access the port (my FX trading program send me an error message saying it cannot access port 80 HTTP).

I've been tweeking with the PC for almost two months, and even using ret point, firewall, registry does not work.  The only way I can switch between using winMX and been able to work and study is turnng off the PC or disconnecting it and turning it back.

I have t run registry mechanic everyday and I get over 20 errors.

If some one can help me out over there I can connect again to winMX as a primary, BTW the lastest run showed the S=0 so I was unable to receive conections from other users and those which got to the que always timed out.

I'm at richardwagner1000@yahoo.com

You seems to be on proxy server.
Bad.
Mostly very bad.

If you can, don't use proxy at all.
They're just a pain and not sure at all most of the time.

Can't help you more. Sorry.

Operating system                 (Windows XP)
- Internet connection type         (cable)
- WinMX Version                    (3.54)
- primary user
- What make of firewall you have window xp
- Router brand and model  none
- Any WinMX add-ons installed      none

I am using 1.9 fix and at the beginning I was able to get some files on queu but then they all disappeared.  Now, it's hardly connect to any user.

Have you set the ports that WinMX uses in the firewall?

Also is XP firewall the only one you use?

Road Runner has been known to filter p2p but this usually only effects the uploads if your one of the cutomers in an area they are doing this...

I set TCP 6699 and UDP 6275 as exceptions in window xp firewall.

Also is XP firewall the only one you use?
I also have zone alarm but it never had any problems before

Can you please go to your WinMX setting and verify that the port options are still set to

Incoming TCP .... port 6699
In/Out UDP ... port 6257

Some times with some firewalls they will flag up anychanges in a program, like upgrades or possibly patches and block them.  It would be a good idea to make sure that WinMX is in the trusted Zones on your ZA firewall.

If this is all set correctly my next suggestion would be to raise your ports to high ones and test.  I can assure you that Road Runner has blocked and filtered customers although, not as many as some ISPs.  All of the users had no warrning before this happened to them either.  One day you wake up and its messed up.  So its worth a try.
Ports like 58202 TCP and 61202 UDP are good ones usually.
I am not saying 100% that is whats wrong but its the normal routine to do at this point to try to help you...
